I learned alot by watching your videos, having never worked on a winch before. Thank you so much.

I was actually shouting at the screen: "Andy, you forgot the seals!". One tip: every time you replace a seal, grease it with silicone grease, it helps the seal to seat better and seal better

The "S" is for synthetic...the provantage can in both the 4500 (steel cable with roller fairlead) and 4500s(synthetic rope with hawes fairlead). I got the same winch in a 3500 series new from dealer a couple of years.

When you put the free spool housing back on, you forgot to put in the little yellow o ring washers that go between the housing and the casing for the pins

The S does not stand for short, it stands for synthetic rope when you buy it new. Both drums are the same width…

Hi Andy! Great video, once again! ;) What kind of grease did you apply? Should it be waterproof? Do you have any way of marking the parts permantly so you can wash them with no worries of loosing the marks?

Hi Hugo, I'll be doing the full rebuild video with grease & torque settings once the parts arrive. Cheers Andy

Great video, best I’ve found and now I understand how the winch works! My issue is the cams apparently were not engaging with that gear so that it would not free spool anymore. I could pull the cable out but couldn’t get it to retract. Also when I removed the screws to remove the gear side, water started pouring out so I also have a leaking issue. I wouldn’t have known this was a problem without this video as this is my first experience with a winch (2019 Can Am Outlander). I have two questions; what did you use to clean everything and what type of grease did you repack with? I’ll search for the video you mentioned above, however an answer here might be helpful to some.

Hello , nice to see a tear down and reassemble. Is the competition that Holley mentioned still valid since she said the draw is scheduled for December 2020? Second point is why are the seals there since there appears to be a dirty great hole into the gear system via the drive shaft? Thanks for the swift reply but this bothered me and i had to check the parts diagram you mentioned. As you probably know and you are just testing the viewers there is seal on either end of the spool which is covered by part kit 74925 which also has all the other seals in it. Will you be replacing all the seals?

Andy, is Holley talking about the previous draw last December or is she talking about a new one this December? Good job on the winch!

Anybody have any input on 2 (Superwinch) vs 3 stage planetary gears? Any strength advantage one way or the other?

Hey Andy I have a 2000 yamaha grizzly 600 it's smoking bad when you give it throdle but it's white smoke it smells like bad gas what can cause that.
@AndyMechanic3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony, usually white smoke is water in the combustion chamber. Does it loose coolant?
@anthonyyoung73443 жыл бұрын
@@AndyMechanic it doesn't have a radiator it is a air cooled engine.
@AndyMechanic3 жыл бұрын
ah okay. Then it can only be oil consumption. Have you noticed the oil level dropping over time/usage?
@anthonyyoung73443 жыл бұрын
@@AndyMechanic no it seems to stay on full but it smokes bad I can't understand why it's white smoke and smells like gas and not oil.
@anthonyyoung73443 жыл бұрын
@@AndyMechanic the guy I got it from put a bolt in the crank case vent hose would that make it smoke because of to much crank case pressure.
