Pulau Weh 2017

Pulau Weh or Weh Island is located in Indonesia. It's part of the Acheh province and the northern most tip of Sumatra .Definitely one of my favourite islands to visit as it offers spectacular dives and an island filled with beautiful landscapes. My daughter was born in Pulau Weh in 1993. Beautiful place with awesome reefs.

It is a spectacular place, also not very famous amongst international tourist hence why it's still considered a hidden gem.

My daughter was born at Iboih. There were a handful of other travelers at the time in 1993. Remember there was an Italian guy building a hut. And Fatima a local woman was the lady who was the midwife who delivered my daughter.

Interesting story, I wonder if the hut is still there or if Fatima still lives in the same village. I am actually heading to Iboih next week for more diving. I'm sure the place must be very different now compared to how it looked in 1993.

Cool. I would love to get back there some day. How do you get there. We did ferry from Penang to Medan then bus to Banda Aceh and then ferry to Sabang. What are prices like there now? It was dirt cheap in 1993. And is it safe now? Would also love to get back to Lake Toba and Blankejeren in the mountains. Did you do Pulau Banyak? Great place if your into diving or snorkeling

I have not yet explored any other islands around Acheh accept for Weh. Now its actually very easy to get to Pulau Weh/Sabang, take a flight from KLIA2 to Banda Acheh then a 30 min drive in a van to the jetty. From there we take the speed ferry which will be around 35 min to Weh ( 2 hours+ by slow ferry). Then another van ride from the jetty to Iboih which takes around 45 mins. It's actually very accessible from Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta now.

will the current over there strong? which resort you stay?

The currents are usually quite mild and only for certain dive sites. I usually dive with Rubiah Tirta Divers and they set us up in chalets nearby. It's located in Iboih very close to most of the dive sties.

Sabang itu indah n so be exotic very2 beautiful yg tdk enak di transfortasi. Smua transfortasi di handle oleh aparat kasih harga sesuka dengkulnya. Mrk pkir smua orang bs mrk bodohi begitu kena yg mrk bw n cb bodohi klrga Aparat baru.... Nyahok! Sy wkt itu sempat kena tipu oleh tentara tp untung owner n management hotel mata ie help our family. We stay in mata ie hotel. So very2 beautiful hotel n best management. Pemda sabang hrs perbaiki management transfortasi jk ingin maju spt negara lain n daerah lain di Indonesia.....jgn byk calo. Sy sbgai orang Aceh malu melihat sistem transfortasi yg carut marut. Harga makanan hrs sesuai dg apa yg disajikan ini tdk ada.... Harga selangit makanan entah spt apa. Untung sy bw stock makanan dr mdn. Berbenah ke arah lebih baik jk ingin maju itu trgntung pemkot n slrh element pemda setempat. Jk mau maju hrs bs menerima kritik n saran.
