Your weathering always brings so much life to the piece that you're doing I love how it looks 👍👍
@flitsertheo2 жыл бұрын
One shouldn't overdo the weathering though. First, these vehicles were brand new, maybe 1 year old so not that much time to fade. Then, the first responsibility of a tank crew is to keep its tank running and that is done by regular maintenance and cleaning. That means as soon as there is a break from combat. And you certainly wouldn't see any rust or it would be touched up immediately.
@jimcochran95812 жыл бұрын
looks good .. use to build lots of 1/35 and model cars, but now I can't justify $35.00 for a model car and really can't justify $ 125.00 + for 1/16 scale ....that money now buys gas and food...so I'll sit an enjoy watching you all build ... keep up the good work ...waiting to see the finished tank factory !!!!!

Amazing build, museum quality, you definitely captured the "iron patina". Patton would be proud. The fact you built the model before painting is incredible, I've never done that, however that may change on my next project. It seems to give you a better platform to finish out. Like shrinking the submarine in Fantastic Voyage, but leave Rachel Welch out :-) Well maybe more like Fury. So many colors so many decisions.

I always paint my military vehicles after construction. The model is as a blank canvas waiting for a painter. What"s more, in all those years of modelling I never used a spray gun or can. The old masters for which this country is famous never needed those either.
@c123bthunderpig2 жыл бұрын
@@flitsertheo good point, I ordinarily build aircraft, however , I'm starting to see assembling first and then painting on these new huge scale kits too. The technique, ( cockpits aside), might work better on the smaller scales too like 1/72 and 1/48). My first kits many years ago I hand painted with Humbrol paints. Early AMT cars came out about the time of spray cans, before that we'd actually use car wax to smooth out the hand paints. I've got some old kits stashed back I may just check out this technique .

I'm a little confused. At about 7:40 you show a bottle of Old Rust 0042, but then you show a screen shot of Old Rust 0041. I assume the bottle in your hand is the color your using(?) Then I thought that when you start a different chipping color THAT was 0041, but it's a different name "Chipping." So, between 41 and 42, did you use both or just 0042? I'm in the process of building the paint list for this kit and will be using this video as a learning guide, which is why I'm asking.

@janvandepoel24422 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, just was watching your weathering techniques. Great. Going to try that soon on my 1/16th Tamiya Sherman. One thing however. When weathering the spils from the gas filler, you let the spil run in a 90degree angle to the side of the Sherman. In Real life this would have run in an angle as the rear of the tank is also sloped. Got to nag something right?

Great job only sugestion is the teeth on the sprockets and matching contacts on the tracks should be shiny pollished steel also put some damage on the rubber road wheels rocks get stuck and debree get chrushed in between the inside track pads and road wheels ripping out chunks of rubber. another problem we had was a complete sections of the rubber whould delamanate from the steel hub. the inside of the roadwheels have steel rub rings that the centerguides or (guide horns U.S.Tankers dont use that term),rub against are also bright shiny metal and within a day of being parkedall these areas will turn a deep dark rust color.What about this have a brand new installed road wheel in perfect condition with bolt heads that look like a socket took off some paint? Not criticizing your artistic work Andy I have truble wheathering my tanks I have to let them sit a week or more just ot have the time and willpower to apply my own sugestions. thank you for being here for all of uss who love this hobby.
