Hi Andy. I know they aren't the same but I fitted Oxford heated grips to my storm. They also use the battery monitor system. I fitted them last winter in conjunction with a new battery. I've not experienced any trouble starting if you leave them on. A great system for the electrically incompetent likes me!

I’ve got Oxford on mine, they were on the bike when I got it. I quite like those ones you fitted without that big bloody handlebar unit. Think my mate may like those. Factory!! I got it lol👍

Love my Oxford Heaterz, but I wish I'd seen these 1st. Alterations to the throttle tube are a necessary evil either way though. Clean tidy install mate!👍

Hi Andy. Been watching your back catalogue on the basket case. It's inspired me to start my own build. Thank you

Hi Andy - as you have brought an unswitched feed up to the relay, direct from the battery, you should have put fuse in line as close to the +ve battery terminal as possible.. If you have its worth noting in case others are following your lead! If there's any future chafing on the feed, you are at risk of a fire without a correctly rated fuse in circuit.

Hi Jon, as I hold an electrical license you would think that I would know that. Lucky for all of us Komine fitted an inline fuse to the cable at the battery end of the supplied cable. It’s all good mate, it’s safe 👍

You're going to enjoy those. I fitted my first pair 6 months ago and they are great. Riding over the ditch in the South Island is year round for me and they make a huge difference.

Great job Andy. I reckon those are better than factory because I had a 2008 multistrada with factory heated grips & there was a dash mounted heat controller with 3 settings. At least you’ve got 5!

Look out chaps! Andy has a new editing style designed to get rid of people who have epilepsy😉. Those grips look good. I’ve had a look to see if I can get them in the UK but it doesn’t look like you can. However, Ultimate Add Ons look like they might be rebranding the same thing.

Another job well done. The roads are nice there compared to where i just moved to. Because of losing most of my income , i had to move to a friend of mines house, in " The People's Republic of Illinois" U.S., and man, you should see the roads here, its like a third world country. During a ride , i talked to someone from Southern Illinois, and he said Chicago steals all the road money, and i believe it !

I have the well known other brand on my Honda CB125e. Although they work great, I would not use them on the Moto Guzzi Griso due to the large control box. Thanks for showing me these grips.

Hey there Andy hope you doing well mate. I keep telling myself to get heated grips but I never get around to it. I honestly don't think much to add if you have really good winter gloves. like how much better can they really be? cause with my very insulated gloves my hands actually can sweat they get so warm in there. so I don't think heated grips are worth it. having said that Tazzie is a lot colder than here our lowest temp this winter was 4 degrees. so colder temps they probably do much better Hows Tazzie going for the C/Virus. QLD we just came out of a 2 week lockdown again

Had to do the same on my 1198. Filed the ribs down with a Stanley knife until I had an interference fit which enabled me to trial fit them to check the cable position. Really like the look of the integrated button on those! Technical question! Why did you add the relay to an already switched 12v line? Surely you could have run them directly from that connector. Great video. 👍👍

That plug is an output from the ECU and I’m not sure what current it can handle, it is only used to switch the factory grips on, not actually power them. Safer to use it to switch a relay and use the dedicated fused cable to power them.

Nice install Andy 👍🏻 have you thought about removing that pesky aerodynamic fairing and replacing it with a piece of steel?

Hi Andy - Fantastic video as always. I just purchased a similar set of heated grips and plan to fit them to my 2004 ST3. I have a question for you though. What is the purpose of the relay unit that you installed? When I expose that factory accessory plug for the heated grips, temporarily connect the power wire for the heated grips to its green and orange wire, and finally ground the heated grips to that screw where you mounted your relay, the grips work great. They come on when the key is turned on and they go off when the key is turned off. The grips cannot turn on when the key is off. So, I'm unclear what the relay unit adds to this job. Can you please clarify? Thanks! Cheers!

Thanks for the comment mate. I was unsure about how much amperage that circuit could handle as it isn’t a fused battery circuit, it is from the ECU. If you have had success then great, I just wasn’t comfortable doing it, but my system works and is bulletproof. If I did use that circuit I would have used the earth wire from that plug too, as it is earthed via the ECU circuit too. You have used an indirect circuit by returning to the battery via the chassis rather than the ECU circuit. Cheers, Andy

@@ANDY5 This is awesome, thanks Andy! I really appreciate the additional explanation. I did not include a relay on my installation and just used the power and Earth from that accessory circuit as you recommended. Everything seems to be working perfectly, but if that changes, I'll post a follow-up here. Thanks again!

Now you have had these heated grips for some time, what do you think of them. Better than Oxford's big box controller and how is the ongoing performance? Looking at them due to controller.
