Replacing the roof on my 1995 Flair Fleetwood motorhome this method works for both EPDM and TPO roofs.
This is the roof kit i purchased for around $488.00 made by Lottes Roofing www.ebay.com/it...
You will also need butyl tape or putty tape and probably extra lap sealant and extra seam tape.

I am an RV tech and do roofs all the time, takes me the better part of an 8 hour day and maybe an hour in the morning. It's really not a hard job unless you have severe water damage. However if you do it yourself you will save tons of money.

It is probably worth the trial and error following a tutorial by learning a new trade but you'll spend 30-40 hours of tedious, frustrating labor learning the ropes while trying to stay under 2k in materials in order to save ~4k vs paying a pro to do the whole thing for 6k.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Thank you for this video. I was just quoted 14k to replace just the membrane on my roof the plywood and foam is all in perfect condition. They made it sound much more difficult than your video shows. I work professionally in the commercial construction industry so I am more than capable to do this and honestly I trust my work more than someone at a local dealer.

They probably did have some hyped up sales pitch but everyone is basically paying for the high insurance. Asphalt shingles are more brutal to work with, especially since rubber is used on low pitches. Big rubber jobs can get fucked up if you're not focused. It sucks to pull back up, or spilling glue, etc. 14 grand for what size exactly? On a friggin' camper?!

Instead of using roofing screws on the side termination bars, I'd use longer pan head screws like you used to screw the roofing to the edges of the vent openings. You can get the rubber washers separate to add to those pan head screws. You'll have a smoother line, and less wind noise. I'd also put a tiny dab of sealant on the screw threads as I installed them

This guy either installs roofs for a living or he's the best handyman I've ever seen ,my guess is that he's a roofer because no handyman would know about using a punch to stop tearing at penetrations ,you did a nice job man ,on my 5th wheel I installed 60 mil fleece backed fully adhered Trocal PVC roof , i got lucky on my deck having no rott so i chose a 1/4 OSB and glued it to the existing deck using yellow glue on the deck amd the bottom of the new deck because i didnt want fasteners on my deck ,i taped my seams as well ,I chose PVC over rubber or TPO so I could heat weld the roof to the edge metal I custom bent into a one piece drip edge/gutter channel, I also made 8 inch high roof curbs for my vents and A.C. units that I wrapped with PVC coated metal so I could heat weld the roof sheet to the curbs and be water tight without any flashing ,I used Tech 5 fasteners for my gutter channel that have rubber washers ,once tight I covered every fastener with a blob of white Vulkem polyurethane caulking and tooled it in , I have 4 slide outs I waterproofer using White Firestone 60 mil EPDM that worked out well too .

Retire Soon agreed. I've seen people even cover the screws with eternabond, which is overkill. I'd def break out a tube of lap seal on the screws. If nothing else it will prevent your screws from rusting and creating black streaks down the sides of your coach. Great job though.

A dab of sealers on the screw hole and screw tip before inserting and tightening down. This will prevent water from traveling down the threads and help to keep the screw tight thanks to the light bond between the wood, screw, and sealer. And yes, it never hurts to dab over each screw. Just not with silicone. No silicone on the exterior of an RV. Cheers!

Tks And, you didn't say how, what and where did you get that big roll of EPDM or whatever it was and how much it cost. Also, I have another RV 72 Dodge Champion and I've changed vents at it is an aluminum roof. I kind of want to just scrape to the aluminum along the seams, seam tape it and then put a bucket of roll on over it. Ideas? Tks

Biggest problem with these rubber roof's from the manufacturer is they used staples to attach the 1/4 plywood too the framing. After driving with the vibration and constantly leveling, the staples start to loosen and pop up into the rubber and eventually causing leaks. If they would have put in screws like you did in the first place, the roof would last a lot longer.

Great video... Great work... ... I have to tell you a story only you would appreciate... I have flipped RVs, Travel Trailers for years... I found this dinky like travel trailer... and the owners said there were "LEAKS" in the roof... when I walked inside I SAW all these NAILS sticking through the ceiling!!! I asked why there were dozens (yes I said dozens) of nails sticking through the ceiling. They said, "because there were leaks and we NAILED plywood (inside) to make it stop!"... I felt so sorry for them... I got a good price on the tiny trailer and had to completely redo do the roof... So I know how hard this is... but so necessary ... Thank you for sharing your video. Great job.

Excellent video! If I could give a couple additional tips, I would roll out the roofing material and let it relax for a couple hours to smooth out the creases before glueing. The Eternabond tape is fanatic if not overkill. Duct tape or gorilla tape works also. If you must use roofing screws, cover them with lap sealant anyway. If you make a series of videos being more specific on each phase, that would be extremely helpful for a newby. Nice job! That roof will last many years if maintained.

Wow what a great tutorial and for the life of me i cant understand how anyone could give this a thumbas down, if I owned a company that did this I'd hire you and let you teach every new hire and watching this would be mandatory. I'm looking at buying a camper that needs roof repair and when I searched youtube this one was the first one I seen and the last one I need to do this......................thankyou For taking the time to show the entire process

Absolutely the best rv roofing I’ve seen. You explained every detail and show everything. Congratulations on your Rv. I’m planing on buying one, but I can’t afford an expense one. Most Rv have roofing issues some are just horrible mess. Flooring is another big issue. I will save your video for future references. Thank you so very much :0)

RV Roof replacement is very costly but with Liquid RV Roof you can easily restore your aging RV Roof without no worries at all. Liquid RV Roof is a liquefied version of a synthetic rubber typically referred to as EPDM. Liquid EPDM can go where the sheet version could never effectively coat. Liquid RV Roof is a one coat system for your RV which results in savings in terms of labor and material costs. The final cured properties of Liquid RV Roof are not damaged by adverse conditions.

if the plywood and particleboard is f'ed underneath though, you still have to replace that, liquid epdm won't help with structurally compromised roofing layers.

Great video!! I also decided I can do this because of this video. This guy had more work to do than I did! That said, this is still a long ass job! Its all labor. The local rv service center told me $3-5000.00 for a 35ft rv. Depending on what they find under the old rubber. $515 for a kit. I'll probably end spending $8-900 with all the new stainless screws and new moldings/trim. Again, awesome video and thank you so much for making it!

I think I've spent so far about $1,200 and I'll probably end up spending about the $1,500 to replace the entire roof on my 33-footer eternal blonde tape screws new vents and adding an antenna for the stereo which could be important and a small little roof vent with a fan on it just for the kitchen it's not one of those 14-in square vents it's a small round one that actually takes the humidity and the smoke out of your kitchen it looks like the vents for the water tanks but it has a fan in the middle which is pretty cool. anyway I hope it all went well and if you have any advice for me I'd appreciate it I'm still trying to find an underlayment for the front phylon fiberglass that I have removed in order to repair the front.

Its me again...I started about a week ago. Took everything off the roof and removed the EPDM. I had a lot of rotten wood so I decided to replace all of 1/4" plywood decking. I'm about half done with that. The weather has not been kind. Thanks to this video I'm saving a ton of money and I'll have a new roof when done.
