Well, it definitely wasn't an unaired pilot, it was more like a "pitch reel". Joss shot for the WB execs to get the full green-light for Angel's series after Season 3 of Buffy. Aside from making the Wolfram & Hart lawyers look like Agents from The Matrix, I thought it was very well done. Some of the footage in it even made it into the genuine pilot, "City of".

i thought it was weird at first when wesley and cordelia became angel's sidekicks, but it made more sense when i realized that by then of buffy season 3, those 3 characters were like the show's misfits, and them banding together fits the theme of Angel

I thought that made sense as the others went to college together and Cordelia went to LA to be an actress and Wesley would of been bored and felt no purpose without a slayer yo advise, so it made sense.

I loved it. I was a little dubious as wasn’t really a hardcore cordy fan on buffy, nothing to do with Charisma, or her acting, it was honestly just her character. But Cordys character did warm up towards her end on Buffy. I was intrigued to see how she’d fit in with Angel, but it worked great. I loved Cordy in Angel. I felt for Charisma though in season 4, if all reports are true, joss was pi$$ed at CC for getting pregnant in real life. Obviously I don’t know if Cordys storylines were always planned to take the turn they did, but it came across to 1000s of fans, including myself, soon as CC pregnancy was common knowledge in RL, Cordys character seemed to be treated like crap, took a whole new turn, even her on screen death was like a lightening flash. She was an OG hell-mouther, and didn’t even get a funeral, viewers didn’t get a closure or her character. On the flip side of that I totally appreciate that season 6 story lines & end of season 5, had to be altered/re-written to compensate for the cancellation, which was kinda mid season 5 if I recall. But again, another director on Angel stated that IF Joss hadn’t of demanded various things, and demanded time changes, and basically not acted “entitled”, Angel would have got season 6, and not been cancelled. *** Sorry for Essay, it’s hard to condense opinion/info into couple of sentences 😂 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Great pitch. Angel, good brooding Angel, snaking about the outfits showed the tone of the series, as dark as it could get it wasn't afraid to poke fun at itself and not take itself too seriously. Great to see Lina too.

This series has certainly grown on me so has David Boreanaz as an actor. I’m currently on the final season of Angel, Rest In Peace continuously Glenn... I also enjoy occasionally watching David in Seal Team as well.

I just finished watching the final episode of season five. I've been watching it the last few weeks. Such a good show. Out of all the tv shows I've watched (and there's been a lot) its my favourite! I'm still annoyed to this day that they cancelled it.

David really has been blessed with one of the best television careers. Literally hit show after hit show. Buffy for 3 seasons, immediately spins off with Angel for five seasons, then almost immediately got Bones and that went on for over 12 years, same year Bones ended, he stars in Seal Team, which is still going strong to this day. An amazing actor with an amazing career.

I watched both Angel & BtVS the very 1st time round, when they had just aired. But every year I have an Angel/Buffy fest, and watch every episode of every season, for both series. It used to be my dvd collection, now it’s Disney Plus 😀 So sad it ended. I understood Buffy ending. But if reports are true (as stated by a director on Angel) IF Joss hadn’t acted “entitled”, and demanded various things, the network WOULD have renewed contract, and season 6 of Angel would have been done. But, due to various issues (mainly Joss by all accounts) season 5 had to undertake major adjustments/rewrites to fit it all in season 5, the end 😢 As much as I love Buffy & Angel, almost 30yrs now, I could never quite grasp the comics. I read a few, left them, then tried again, but they didn’t have the same feel as an actual action series, but that’s just my own personal opinion. *** Glenn who played Doyle was amazing, very very sad he passed away. *** Another extremely sad death was Andy, who played Lorne, only 38yrs old if I recall correctly. Heart failure caused by heart disease, he’d had since a young age. Again if I recall correctly, Andy was spotted singing karaoke in a bar, and the “Angel” team thought he’d be great to play singing demon/empath Lorne.

The song is called 'Here' by Vast. I agree about Fred. I liked her character a lot and it was sad to see her go. I did however, like Illyria too. All and all I'd say it was an even trade. Two sides, same coin.

I also think that this entity initiated everything in terms of evil, demons, and the corruption of the old ones and then of humanity. We know that nothing can destroy this thing, and that it was there before the beginning of time, as if it too had contributed to the construction of the universe but in a perverse and dominant spirit. the first demonic dimensions could have been built by The First... who knows? I like to see it like that...

He was possessive even when evil. Spike always put her first. Plus on this intro Angel actually says Buffy was his first love, he sounds like a teenager. I thought his first love was the gypsy girl who’s family cursed him. And are we really supposed to believe that after 246 years he never fell in love with anyone else?!

I tried reading the comics, but I couldn't, I know it was canceled, but still the ending was fitting, and for me not knowing the destiny of Angel is the beauty of the whole thing, maybe that's why I didn't read the comics.

The talking directly to the camera was different, but Joss has never been above narration. An example in Buffy is Angelus' narration in the season 2 episode 'Passion' and an example in Angel is Lorne's narration in the season 4 episode 'Spin the Bottle'.

sometimes you can kinda tell his accent is still there. I hear it come in at random parts. It's interesting how David Boreanaz did it becuase he is an american but the accent was done really well. it's almost like Joss Whedon told him to purposely to do that but then again I might just be imagining things when I hear it.

There's a comic that Joss Whedon created it follows the event's of what happened to Angle after the last. I don't want to spoil any of the plot in case you want to read it but Gunn became a vamp and Angle's now almost Human. Check it out I really liked it.I think think it's still an ongoing series that has yet to end.

@lizalector Yep. This video was only meant for the WB execs, so they'd pick up the show. They shot a few new scenes and just slap a bunch of others together around it, They'd probably have thrown in scenes from Batman, if it had vampires in it. Maybe the legal reasons were why it wasn't on the DVDs.

@happyflowers1991 They never really said specifically why, but my opinion is that Angel intentionally Americanized himself. The whole fighting for redemption thing was something relatively new that had not come up until 1996, when Angel was approached by Whistler. Before then, he felt that he had no place in the world and tried to hide himself. It would make hiding in America more diificult if he still sported the Irish Brogue.

I really enjoyed this show but my main criticisms are; they should never of killed off the Doyle character and kept the cop lady around & they should have kept closer to the dark detective noir style of the 1st season

Doyle was killed because Glenn Quinn had a drug problem (tragically, he died because of it), and it has hard for him to do his job. Cordy being made a superior being was stupid, I mean she was fighting the good fight, but to me didn't seem enough for the transformation. And the whole Connor thing, pairing him with Cordelia (was just disgusting, even if she wasn't herself); wish he would've been more like the Connor he become in season 5, much earlier. Angel started like a good show, the first two seasons were amazing and the first half of season 3, but after Wes stole the baby, it went downhill. Season five was good for me, but I wish we could've seen more of Cordelia, something definetely changed after Charisma was out of the picture.

I think the description is wrong, WB never needed convincing to do this show since it was their idea the whole time. Whedon never planned an Angel spin-off, in fact Becoming Part 2 was supposed to be the end for the character and the only reason why Angel was brought back for season 3 of Buffy was to give him his own spin-off show.

In the original pilot, "City of", Angel has been sent to save a girl, but fails. The vampire who killed said girl then sets his fangs on Cordelia - who Angel does save, and as they are running away from the vampire-in-question, Doyle and Cordelia. The end of the episode, in the new Angel Investigation offices, Doyle begins his crushing on Ms. Chase.
