Last episode Lilah said to Wesley, “I thought the ‘come alone’ was a nice touch. I mean, how else would you come?” and I honestly can’t decide if that was intentional foreshadowing or just coincidence. Anyway, I agree about constant relationship failures being too predictable sometimes. But Fred and Gunn are pretty solid. And Willow and Tara are back together!! I wouldn’t call Wesley and Lilah a couple at this point, but maybe it will become that.

I just want to say, I _really_ appreciate how calm and nice you are towards Connor's character so far. I wish the actor looked a bit younger because I feel like sometimes it's easy to forget that he's a messed up brainwashed child who never got the chance to grow up properly but overall he's actually one of my favourite characters of any show to research. I can write pages and pages of essays on him and still find more layers to his character.

I love how powerful the storylines are in the Buffyverse. The fact Doyle got killed off so early in the first season, and everybody was heartbroken from it, just shows how good the writers for the show are. Every punch the show throws at you really hits hard. Some shows try hard hitting twists, can't stick the landing, and you're sat there thinking along the lines of 'I get it, but you didn't do enough to make me care'. The Buffyverse isn't like that and it's painfully brilliant. 20 years later and these storylines are still just as able to play with our emotions says something and I love it.
@quinnsinclair70284 жыл бұрын
That speaks more to their frustrations with an actor in the descent of drug and alcohol addiction. Doyle's departure wasn't a stylistic choice, it was a logistics one. Glenn Quinn's substance abuse problems meant he was a nightmare to work with on set.

In the 90s and early 00s show writers and runners suffered from a misconception of so called Moonlighting Curse, based on the show Moonlighting, that suffered from drastic drop in ratings when the main will they wont they duo of many seasons got together (which was not the fault of that really, but writing getting shoddy, and having them technically together, but completely not spending time together etc) . This then went on to inform many shows of these times, and HEAVILY influenced specifically genre writing, where ppl could not possibly be happy, because where would the drama and high stakes come from. Unfortunately Buffy verse is still very much a child of this way of thinking. Luckily we are getting away for it for most part in current story telling though. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=moonlighting%20curse www.scottryanproductions.com/debunking-the-moonlighting-curse/

I'm with you with the idea of happy couples being interesting, that's one of the reasons why I absolutely hated Xander & Anya breaking up. I'm less bothered with Angel and Cordy here, plus the show still has Fred & Gunn at least. And I love season 3, the team dynamic is so good, and there are incredible moments, but I do have issues with the last few episodes. The main one being Cordelia. She got to be the absolute best version of herself before she left in ep 14, and then she's back but I don't fully recognize her (and it's not just the horrible hairstyle!!). The writers made her too... evolved, almost saint like, and it just wasn't as interesting. While I totally ship her and Angel, I didn't love the way they treated the romance at the end of season 3. Incredible season otherwise.

Yeah I understand a lot about when you don't gel with the Buffyverse and its relationship breakups. I love it because it's realism how many of us want love but can never find it because either crush just doesn't love you and love someone else, or the love in your relationship sways away towards someone else. It's very much reality and I like that cuz it's true. When Gunn tried to break up with Fred, all those people in the background with relationships are the ones who see in real life in the background that you don't notice then again you do . That's what makes the Buffyverse Angelverse relationships real... Good to see fall

I think it's so lazy when couples don't get to be together and when writers say it'll be too boring and there's no where to go with it, so couldn't agree more. One thing I noticed watching your reactions is HOW MUCH other people tell Angel and Cordy they love each other. I remembered a few occasions but not that many and it's was kinda forced even though without those moments it's so blatantly clear how they feel about each other. They're one of my favourite Buffyverse ships so on looking back that was just interesting that even though they DID feel that way, they are written so passively and that's actually kind of annoying cause it feels reductive to David and Charisma's performance. BtVS S2's finale is the only season of BtVS to date that leaves off on a cliffhanger (although that can be argued as a lot of seasons of Buffy have premieres that wrap up small moments from the previous seasons). This AtS season finale is the first to date for this show that does the same thing and is a cliffhanger. Joss didn't normally do cliffhangers with BrVS or AtS as he never knew when writing the finales if the shows were coming back for their next seasons or not so he would wrap them up. The two seasons to date are arguably the only ones that have had them.

I have recently come up with a theory I would like some feedback on as it could make no sense or it could be accurate. It never seemed to make sense character-wise for Cordelia to believe she could just be a higher power, so perhaps she didn't believe it, but after realizing her feelings for Angel, she used what Skip told her as an excuse to run away from dealing with the situation with Angel. Thoughts?
@jimyeow33794 жыл бұрын
I actually think it makes sense for Cordelia to believe she's a higher power, but not in the circumstance set up here. I think it would be far more in-character for her to agree to leave only if she gets a one hour visit to the higher plane to see whether she actually likes it. But this is Cordelia goddamn Chase. She's always wanted to be exceptional. When she became broke, she decided to become an actress. When her acting job became demeaning to her, she wanted to be Princess of Pylea. In Birthday, when Angel called her just a rich girl from Sunnydale who can't handle her visions, Cordy immediately decides to have her perfect world where she's the center of everything even though the girl in her vision may still be in danger. When Cordy sees that she is actually super important to Team Angel, without her, the entire team is in shambles, she agrees to have her visions back. . In Waiting in the Wings, Cordy has bought into her personal myth that she is extraordinary. CORDY: You know, there was a time when you thought I was the loveliest thing in the world.. WESLEY: Well, I... You're an extraordinary woman. CORDY: At ease, soldier. Just like to hear it every now and then. I was the ditziest bitch in Sunnydale, could have had any man I wanted. Now I'm all superhero-y and the best action I can get is an invisible ghost who's good with the Loohfah." . Cordy's greatest strength is that she knows her worth, but her flaw is that she also likes having her worth validated. I think Cordy was using Groo to run away from the Angel situation. But I think her decision to meet him is her forcing herself to deal with her feelings....
@stevenmillett4 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t make a ton of sense because I saw her running away with Groo (diet-Angel) as her denying her feelings and this one was her finally accepting them and wanting to something about it. *spoilers* Your interpretation fits pretty well with the beginning of season 4 where she’s bored as shit up in heaven tho lol
@SessVlogs4 жыл бұрын
Before I reply, I saw the word “theory” and sang your whole comment to the tune of “I Have a Theory”, so there you go. Also I’m about to hint at some spoilers for season 4 here, so anyone reading this who hasn’t seen it, do not read on! I don’t believe the decision to ascend was entirely Cordy’s, personally I choose to believe that some other power was willing her to do so. Adding on that she has anxiety over her potential relationship with Angel, as you say, that could have made her easier to sway in that direction.
@Buffy8Fan4 жыл бұрын
@@stevenmillett SPOILER But I don't think she is in denial. I think/am wondering if it is that she is unconsciously too scared to deal with them/Angel directly even if she claimed out loud she is ready so she uses the Higher Being excuse as out out not realizing what it would ultimately mean in all of s4 or even just early S4. I am looking at this as Groot being denial and this being realization followed by unconscious/unrealized fear.

I know Cordy's not the love of his life the way Buffy was, but they've become so close over the past few years, surely being intimate with her would make him 'perfectly happy' again. I'd say there was a lot of similarity between Wesley and Lilah sleeping together and Angel and Darla, they were both enemies and it was the result of anger and despair, at least on the part of the men, rather than love and passion.

There comes a point where subverting the happily ever after trope just starts to feel like misery porn when you lean too far into it. Agreed, at first it was realism, but there's a point where ending the happily ever after trope becomes a happily never after trope. But he is a brilliant sadist who has relationship issues and I've heard in long series actors get Really bored having a romance with the same person as it's not a real relationship for them, just a job. Same time I know plenty of people that last, have ups and downs but last. At least half are fascinating. Other half a mix of dull and super romantic vomit bubble but they're happy, just maybe the other half are better for tv. Though I have done a dull couple surrounded by entertaining friends and massive challenges and it worked. Bad example though as he dies kind of early so no way to know if it would last like the one most likely to succeed post novels. Never expected to patch that one back up but with all that happened it suddenly made sense in a way it never had before. Babylon 5 and Bones have at least one each. Up and downs in the latters case but works out and I won't say which of course. And a lot more non romantic family works out. The Incredibles covers both truths. Think I hate Justine for encouraging Conner to do that and keeping up the lie. It's where I lost my last shred of pity for her. There is a lot they can do isn't there? Good luck guessing muhahahaha. 🎶"Where do we go, from heeerrrreee?"🎶 Glad you got an intriguing surprise btw at least. I think you are a little unfair with the couple trope. In Btvs, you have Willow and Oz during 3 seasons, Willow and Tara for 3 seasons (to date), Anya and Xander for 4 seasons. Most of the time, they are perfectly happy together. They still are very young. I don't know a lot of people that find the right person while they were only 20. Plus, I don't really care for the couples, I'd rather see happy single character. Personally the trope that annoys me is that a character can't be happy if he / she is not in a relationship...

It's still not my fav, but I definitely have come to feel it doesn't deserve ALL the hate. Only for that ONE plotline lol

Uh oh Niles. That's kind of a spoiler. Don't do that to Liam.

@Fauxindigo Yeah, when a plotline makes me want to wash my eyes out with bleach I feel like the goodwill of any other quality the season might have is doused.

It's okay. Cordy comes back in season 7 and it is epic

Remember the leprechauns making that rainbow to help her escape the heavens? So touching!

I definitely did not like Cornelia and Angel together, and I was pissed at Cordy for how she treated groo/gru she broke his heart. He deserved better. I love the ending with her ascending and Angel descending.

i loved season 3 as a whole, but wasn't a huge fan of this finale. cordelia's ascension seemed random and forced. connor is extremely unlikable and hard to root for. and wes being off on his own/separated from the group is not fun/kinda sad to see.

Angel and Cordelia suddenly "in love" it feels so rushed, they work great as friends/family bond but not as a couple. And Cordelia as a higher power is so corny and really ridiculous, it doesn't make any sense

I agree it seems really rushed to me. I feel the Cangel ship was forced as they had to change Cordelia’s character into a mary sue type to be a partner for Angel.

It wasn't suddenly. It was building since season 1

Are you kidding me? This was the least rushed romance in the buffyverse. You want rushed? Oz fell in love with willow at first glance, tara and willow first meeting, angel and buffy first few episodes of the show, doyle in love with cordy first meeting, gru and cordy right away... shall I go on? This was the slowest, most believable build up in EITHER series and it's the best pairing as such. They make each other better. They confide in one another. Unparalleled levels of care. It made WAYYY more sense than buffy and angel (which I was never a fan of because it was so forced even though the two HARDLY GOT ALONG EVER but ooooo forbidden romance)

@@JohtoJonnyYT For me it was built up as a great friendship, for the things you mentioned. I never got romantic feelings from them but a love as a friends/family.
