Warren was surprisingly well written plus I liked how his Archangel wings are not always fully open but remain retracted

His story was good as Archangel but his origin was let down and completly missed the point of Warren's tragedy. In the comics, Warren lost his wings during a battle and is tricked by Apocalypse to become one of his horsemen after the villain promised to restore what Warren lost. He's proud of being a mutant, seeing his power to fly as part of his identity. But the show does the opposite, with Warren being turn into a sad mutant tho wanted to get rid of his powers, the opposite of what the character in the comics, which makes his corruption not have the same impact as it should.

not quite. Apocalypse saved what was left of Warren before his helicopter completely exploded. Angel was in bad shape, so he was given Apocalypse's regenerative power to get his body back to strength, but at the same time he's being drugged and pumped full of Apocalypse's DNA (thus changing his skin to blue) and you can see Warren isn't completely with it. By the time his transformation is completed, it's not just physical. Warren really does hate everyone because Apocalypse's machine made each Horseman hyper-aggressive but removed their inhibitions that kept them in check. The drugs amplified their negativity to the nth degree, hence resulting in what we see in the comics.

I believe that Angel wasn't originally an X-Men member in the show which is why nobody recognize him, but then later down the series they retcon him that he was always an X-Men and for some reason they just forgot about it.

In the comics, Arachangel regains his feathered wings and skin, but can switch between both forms. His blood now has healing powers, and gains a spiritual power of Essence Reading.The ability to c peoples true inner self that not even shapeshifting can hide. Not even psychics putting up shields cause this isn't mental based. Hopefully he'll get all those in 97'

He was an expert flyer and had a degree of superstrength. He could lift people and carry them aloft. You don't see Storm or even Rogue doing that.

Storm has lifted entire buildings using the power of the wind and Rogue has lifted tanks. Let's face it when it comes to power Archangel doesn't even come close to Storm and Rogue. Until Apocalypse augmented him with his machine he was nothing but a pretty boy with wings.
