Guys, I've recently finished to re-watch the show, and I still going down with this ship.
Since I've made a few tributes to Buffy and the Buffyverse, I've decided to made one about the spin off, which is in an incredible low quality, I'm sorry but I couldn't be able to find the episodes in 1080p or at least in 720p. When I watched Buffy for the first time I remember I didn't like Angel at all.
I didn't hate him, but I didn't like him either way. His character was extremely boring, and the relationship he had with Buffy was so lame, that the moment they introduced Spike I automatically loved him more, not just for the charm, but for his sarcasm, his humor, he brought new life into the show, and I gradully started to ship him with Buffy. So the moment the spin off aired I wasn't very much excited, till I watched the pilot.
Damn, the new project makes me change my mind about Angel, maybe because the story was all about him this time, so we got to know more about him and his past. Now, I don't remember exactly the moment I started to ship this two.
Maybe in the episode where Doyle died. When Cordelia hugged him and cried into her arms. But I really loved how this relationship has evolved during the seasons and how they started to fell in love with each other.
The first 3 seasons were my favorite, but then somehow in Season 4 I gradually losted interested, because I remember I didn't like what they did to Cordelia, how they turned her into a "villain", maked her slept with Connor (and yes, after all this time it's still a big "what the f*ck?!?") and then she gived birth to... a woman ??? (for real?). They were hight when they writed that storyline? That Season was insane and absolutely the worst. Season 5 was so much better, they introduced Spike and a lot new dynamics, but still I missed Cordelia so much, she was the heart how the show. I'm glad that Joss at least gived her one last episode, which it's still one of my favorite. He basically showed how much Angel needed Cordelia in his life, and how lost he was without her. I cry my eyes out everytime I watch the very last moment when she said "Oh, and you're welcome." before disappearing. I still think that this relationship was so much better and healthy than the one between Buffy & Angel. Cordelia makes him smile. Like, a lot! (which is something that didn't happen very often), they both support each other whenever there's a problem, plus they both make each other a better person.
Even if I'm still sad about that ending, I'm still gratefull because they showed how perfect they were for each other, and how special this relationship was. We all know Joss didn't gave any happy ending to his couples. One of them always dies in the end (Willow/*Tara, Buffy/*Spike, *Anya/Xander, *Wesley/Fred ecc...), so...

I think what made their relationship special was that Angel and Cordelia started with friendship. It wasn't a love at first sight or instant hit up from the beginning but they became true friends and genuinely like each other before they started to attracted to one another. That I think is rare and special about them. I'm still bitter about Cordy's end how they didn't end up together in the end. T_T

Cangel was the better, more mature and stable relationship to me. Such a shame one of the writers(can’t remember who she said) got pissed that Charisma was pregnant. That’s why her story went downhill.

That was Joss Whedon. The behind the scenes feature in S4 and an interview given by David Greenwalt [co-producer] and Charisma discuss how the intial plan for season 4 was to get Angel and Cordy together and later on it would be revealed that Cordy [possessed by Jasmine] was the big bad of the season. Angel would struggle between saving Cordy and saving the world from Jasmine. When Charisma got pregnant, they had to rewrite season 4. That pissed Whedon off.

It was Joss's fault. He's the one made Angel Season 4 goes more dark because he made very bad things for Charisma's character Cordelia. And made very weird between Cordelia and her surrogate son Connor. Plus I didn't know Joss made toxic towards her while she was pregnant in the past. Truth is I dislike Angel Season 4 is very dark because of bad writer. I fell sorry for Charisma and her friends. They deserve better than Joss.

I never watched Buffy but I watched Angel from the beginning to the end as a kid and I loved them so much. It was so weird to find out that they came from another show and that people had different "ships" (hate this word) because for me they were just... "it".

Three things that should have warned us about Whedon: His poor handling of Willow’s sexuality, turning Black Widow into a Damsel who needed to be rescued and thought she was a monster because she couldn’t carry children in Age of Ultron, and the end of Cordy’s story.

What was wrong with how he handled willow's sexuality? I think the only thing I saw criticism for was the way he killed tara off. Other than that there was a lot of restrictions he had because of the network, so i feel like he couldn't even explore that properly.

But as soon as she moved on from Oz she was immediately considered a lesbian. Sure, sexuality is flexible and can change, but to the extent it did with Willow feels a bit off

They hardly were even allowed to kiss that much, so thats why there was a lot of innuendoes with magic. A lot of shows made a big deal with having a gay character. So I don't remember that many bi characters on tv during that time.

This is SO perfect in so many ways, and you quite nearly moved to tears at work! Spuffy will always be my end game, but Corgel isn't very far behind them and they seem to get so little love when compared to the other main pairings! Thank you so very much for this! 100% agree with your description. Cangel was my favorite romance in the Buffyverse. It's that kind of unexpected relationship that works. They were the opposites. Angel was so serious and miserable all the time, while Cordelia was the rich and extroversed girl. They grew up a lot togheter. Cordelia brought out the best of Angel, I've never saw him smile that much as he was with her. And Cord has becomed an extraordinary woman. So you can imagine how pissed I was with Joss when he killed her off. It was so desprectful to make her slept with Angel's son and then put her in a coma. I mean, it was really necessary? btw, as I said before Season 4 is always the worst in any tv show. Also, did you noticed the among of parallel with Snowbarry? In 5x12 Cordelia said to Angel: "You know you're always trying to save every single person in the world? Did it ever occur to you that you were one of them?" And it reminds me of what Caitlin said to Barry in 1x12: "You think you don't deserve happiness. But what you don't realize is, you need a little saving, too." Plus, Angel called her Cordy and Barry called her Cait. Let's not talking about how they both supported their men several times and maked them smile even when they're in a bad mood. Snowbarry had the same potential Cangel had, js.

Honestly my favourite relationship from angel / buffy verse. The writers totally screwed Cordelias character in season 4 onwards and the show without her was not the same for me. Season 4/5 were one big mess so I wasn’t surprised when it got cancelled I think Joss got over co rodent with his audience and if what I heard is true that she was late telling them she was pregnant I think that’s a pretty petty childish way to deal with it. Cordelia Chase character deserved better. She was a massive part of the show for me and the show ended after season 3 when the storylines started to go a bit more soap opera cray cray for me. Always wished someone would bring David and Charisma back together again on another project as they have amazing chemistry.

Omg this made me so emotional b/c I ship Cangel sooo hard. I remember not liking Angel for Buffy (or even Angel himself for that matter) when I started to get into btvs and always felt like they had zero chemistry LOL. It was when I started watching Angel, I started having an appreciation for him b/c of the great depths they were able to go w/his character which wasn't really portrayed properly in btvs. As I continued watching Angel (which I co-watched w/buffy), I found myself more interested in Angel's storyline as opposed to buffy's and it was literally all b/c of Cangel. I shipped them so hard, that's literally all I could think about. To this day I am still sad about Cangel's ending but glad that they were still able to have an epic love story. And yeah I agree, s1-3 were the best, s4 was literally a shit-hole and almost made me stop watching. S5 was much better I missed Cordy soooo much (she was the light of the show). The ending was bittersweet b/c story like that could never have a happy ending (since they're always gonna be fighting something new every time).

I’m about 2 years late to this comment, but I completely agree with everything you said. I absolutely adore and love Buffy, but ever since late season 2 of Btvs I fell in love with Cordelia Chase and that caused me to enjoy Ats a bit more because I loved that we got to see more of Cordy. I fell in love with her friendship with Angel and by season 2 of Ats they were my OTP of pretty much anything I have ever watched (possibly with the exception of Amy/Rory of Doctor Who). With the bombshell (although it was something that was always speculated for as long as I have watched the Buffyverse- which tbh hasn’t been too long) that Charisma dropped, it makes season 4 all the more tragic for me. If Joss wasn’t a huge A-hole we could have gotten a lot more Cangel and it makes me angry that we didn’t. To me, Cordelia made the show. I liked that we got to see more of Angel (and tbh it made me start liking him in the first place), but I was always more invested in whatever Cordy was doing. I love them together and desperately wish we would have gotten more scenes from them after they both knew they were in love with each other 💔💔

The only thing I liked about season 4 was the episodes where the Beast was the main threat, he was scary as hell, and made the show really dark, upped the stakes. Then when he just turned out to be a flunky and they made Cordelia have those weird moments with him and Connor... Yikes. Still, Angel and Cordelia were the best couple and they deserved to have a happy ending. I still wonder to this day what season 5 would've been like with Cordelia in the cast.

I haven't seen a Buffyverse fan vid in ages! Nice job. No need for high def video with these old series because that's how we saw them in the first place. All of them, Angel, Cordelia and Wesley, had amazing arcs over both series. Charisma Carpenter got shafted by Whedon, which is maddening, but she played all sides of Cordelia very very well over her almost eight seasons in the 'verse.

I feel so sad when thinking about Cordelia's fate and Charisma being fired by Joss. In Buffy, Xander cheated on her and then she became poor. In Angel, she was violated three times and had to go through forced pregnancies. And now, she is just gone. She was the heart of the show and hence, should have deserved a better closure. I can't stand people who don't understand why Angel loves Cordy or why he loves Buffy. Or think one is inferior or doesn't work. They're similar women. Angel has a type. Its powerful peppy women. Cordelia is basically Buffy. She was her shadow self in the show (Buffy minus the destiny.) Buffy always talks about how she was just like Cordy before her calling. But we need more ppl to talk about how Cordy is just like Buffy after her visions. It makes sense that once Cordy got a calling/destiny of her own she would rise to be just as heroic and selfless as the Slayer. They're very perky, snarky and confident women. Women who are underestimated (I mean everyone thought Buffy wasn't book smart etc and look at how Xander didn't think Cordy could get into all those colleges) It makes sense that if Angel fell for Buffy then of course he'd fall for Cordy. It's why I love Cangel so much. It's a more grown up less burdened Bangel. It's what Bangel coulda been if Buffy and Angel weren't at the places they were emotionally. Even as far back as season 2 Buffy you could see Angel and Cordys chemistry. They were chatting and laughing in Halloween ep. Buffys slayer life and insecurities and youth was an issue for angel and her. And his angst guilt and fears. And later the curse. Cordy and Angel are free from that. More matured.

The reason Cordelia is missing in season 3 of Angel is because. Joss was mad that she got pregnant and wrote her off the show. He also called her fat and accused her of sabotaging the tv show Angel. And other actors from BTVS have also spoken up against him. He was not allowed in Dawn’s dressing room. He also treated Tara awful. That man should have been sued and fired !! He was the one that caused the show to end after only 5 seasons. He’s a ass whole !!!

Nah, Angel and Buffys relationship was so childish. Buffy was literally a teenager in love and Angel seemed to be the only one who understood her + his looks and constantly "saving" her. The relationship was so boring, there was no emotional maturity. If he hadn't been a vampire I'm pretty sure the relationship wouldn't last. Don't forget that Angel before he turned was a pretty crappy guy. Plus he literally pursued her after seeing her at 15 being called as the Slayer 👀

Buffy and Angel were like a first love experience yes they had chemistry and were in love but it was only like a first love. With Angel and Cordelia it was a more mature love because the chemistry started off as good friends working together and then the chemistry grew between them through time which was more grown up and they always laughed at each others jokes they were each others true love.
