It's UNBELIEVABLE the work Haru is doing for Go, exactely as she did before for Arare. Consciously or unconsciously ( who knows!), she's also teaching the other members how to fit gently Go in the group. GAZ, do you have any opinion about Haru behavior? Do you think she's learned it from her mom or whatelse?.....

I have heard it said from multiple zoos and chimp rescue facilities that their hair is thin with big patches of hair missing due to over-grooming. The chimps will literally groom to the point that they will remove patches of hair and thin other areas out. In the wild, chimps spend around 80% of their time searching for and eating food. Factor in that they usually nap at some point during the day and the time they spend making a new nest each night, that doesn’t leave a whole lot of time left for grooming. For captive chimps things are usually very different. Most captive chimps don’t have to search for food. It is thrown to them several times per day. So now around 80% of their day is leisure time. What will they do? They will groom, groom, groom to occupy themselves. Tama zoo and quite a few other zoos and sanctuaries have started providing complicated food puzzles and other types of enrichment which forces the chimps to spend more of their time searching for food. They aren’t nearly as bored and as a result they groom less. They still groom each other regularly, they just do it less.
