He'd just started a new project with Greg Giuffria and wanted to let him know before saying yes to Kiss. I respect him for thinking of his longtime friend instead of throwing him under the bus. It was Kiss's loss not Punky's.

Gene said when they were signed back in the day that under no circumstances they were to open for KISS. And he was right. They were too damn good. KISS can blow any arena in their heyday but ANGEL can blow KISS.
