I am glad you found help before you end up in the streets. It is very easy to fall into an addiction, especially gambling. Self-control is very difficult and you have to be mentally strong to fight those temptations. Thanks for being brave to tell your story of addiction. I know there are many gambling addicts that are not willing to admit their addiction but kudos to you.

Hmong people's popular advice for the wife to always follow the husband's footstep no matter what he does even in the wrong is stupid. I would suggest that whenever your spouse is practicing a lifestyle going downhill and refusing to better themself, best leave them. Better to save yourself than get yourself engaged in a horrible addiction with them. Sad. Very very sad for this lady.
@kevkawmkevpaub6189

I think you are exaggerating. Your comments always contain biases and misleading. Traditionally, Hmong encourage the wives to follow their husbands in a positive ways for the most part. However, this is the 21st century and if anyone still cling to the old way of life or old thinking, that person is simply an ignorant.

@@kevkawmkevpaub6189 : I never said Hmong discouraged their daughters or wives from doing the right thing. You may say whatever you want about me, I do not care nor am offended one bit because my stance still stands in this. Even if you disagree and are in denial, it doesn't change the fact that there is a broken system in Hmong culture and Hmong society (though changed somewhat), there are still a lot of prejudices and stigma. Otherwise, why would there be so many men and women coming forward speaking out over and over again about certain unfair treatment and practices?
@monkeybanana9269

@UCB121H756VzEd8ZHwNjRZlA : Positive about what? Positive about a radical and bs practice? Of course it's shameful. You can love it all you want and sweep it under the rug like some but even elders I spoke to (unrelated and related including my father and grandfather), many also hate some of the stuff in Hmong culture because they seen the injustices in it not just in regards to gender inequality. I don't need to get explicit what they are when they're already well known. You can write me back or not, I do not care. I am done here and my point made already. Offended or not, it's yours and anybody else's choice. I am not the only one feeling ashamed. Many others feel the same way.

@@monkeybanana9269. Go back to read your first sentence and think for a minute to see if you know how devastating what you said is. You don't seem to understand the value of being a Hmoob woman or a woman in general. What you said is completely disgraceful and disrespectful to your own kind, and some time this kind of disgrace and disrespect end up in the court with some ignorant women. Therefore, today we have many divorced cases of Hmong women trashing not only their husbands but the entire Hmoob men in court (I wonder what other Hmoob men did to these women). Fortunately, I happened to take the stand to defend Hmong men and their society in one case, and it was immature and embarrassing. But with my testimony and the evidences I provided to the court, the judge finally tossed all the nasty shit the wife accused Hmong men out. This often happens because some of our women are toxic, brainless and ignorant. If you are not happy with your race, you are free to move on and join another race. You have the freedom to choose No, I don't simply accuse you of anything I want nor am I trying to offend you in any way. I'm simply talking about what you said, and what you said is exactly the world view of the many ignorant Hmong women have regarding to hmong men and Hmong culture. I personally think every Hmong person, men or women, should be appreciated for being a Hmoob. And being a Hmoob means you should protect the Hmong, it's culture and society. No, Hmoob culture and society are not perfect, and I stand against many mistreatments and practices that we have. There are many things need to be changed, and some are in the process of changing now. You can't expect the entire culture and society to change overnight. However, you should know that there is not a perfect culture or society in this world. Anyone who thinks that the mainstream society and culture in this country is perfect is simply an ignorant. Even the legal system in this country is broken and imperfect.

Sister. Let me tell you this first of all I am so proud of you for finding it within yourself to turn yourself your life around. You knew who you were you always did but you had to find your true self again. The Hmong culture especially parents always say if your inlaws steal you learn to steal, if they gamble you learn to gamble, if they gossip you learn to gossip, if they kill you learn to kill okay, if they drink you drink. You my sister fell into this trap. You did it to fit in to get along to save your marriage by showing interest in your ex-husband family. In the end, you ruined yourself and did your inlaws have your back. So who had your back. Right your own brothers and sisters okay. To all my Hmong sisters please live your life for you and your kids and if your husband stear you to become someone you were not and or want to be stand your ground leave if you need to. If you did, you would have left that rotten marriage and probably be the winner in all of that mess. Your heart still has hope dreams and beliefs. You still remembered who you were and that was what got you out of an addiction. You did not let your cheating ex and broke life lead you six feet under. You see you lived for your kids and that speaks of a good but broken and healed mother. Sending 💘 to you as you should never speak again of shame and embarrassment again okay. You have no shame to bear on your shoulder you end up on the wrong side facing a terrible addiction that spiraled out of control because of your ex and family. Yups addiction is that easy to fall into. You have a voice and I'm glad you spoke out and loud. Bless you sister okay from one sister right here to you stand tall and live your life in loving arms and around family that loves and support you. 2022 for you okay.

Ah sh*t! I work too hard for my money, the casinos has not helped me through my hardship while trying to balance work/life/school. Cried so many nights when it was so difficult, I wouldn't give the casinos a penny of my hard earned money. If my husband was a gambler, I leave his a$$ in a heartbeat. Hell, I wouldn't get myself involved in a life with no future as a gambler. The best lesson you will learn is the one you teach yourself. Also, you need to know your priorities, glad you understood what your priorities are. It's not too late get help and get out of any addiction. Glad to hear you decided that your life and children were worth more than throwing all your money away at the casinos.

Some Hmong families needs to change how they advise (qhuab ntuas) a newly wed couple, especially the bride. Stop telling the bride to follow whatever the groom's family does, no matter good or bad; such as "if your husband's family works hard, then you work hard; if your husband's family steals, then you steal; if your husband's family is lazy, then you also be lazy." We get the point that the sayings are metaphorical and the bride should adapt to the husband's family, but it leaves a sour taste when people hear those words. In this story, she is basically following the advice from the "mej koob" and her side of the family, yet in the end her family still chastise her for doing what she was told.

An eye opener for gamblers. I know its easier said than done but its possible to quit or slow down if a person really have the heart to. Sucks that your husband left you when he was the cause for your addiction. Like they say, if you married a thief, you become a thief, married an alcoholic, you become an alcoholic etc. Glad you turn your life around. Money is hard to come by and you work your butt off for that hard earned money so use it for something that is worth it. The casino doesnt deserve your paycheck.
