Nick knights visual take on Skinheads is pretty much spot on as far as I can make out. All the research that I've done suggests that the first records and use of the word skinheads other than the 1950's US skinhead phenomenon which is pretty obscure was in relation to the 1960's Chelsea bovver boys associated with Chelsea football club. I seem to recall that they were Mods that had rejected the move towards the more feminine looking Hippies and had adopted a more working class utilitarian garb - e.g. the skinhead look with the adoption of the Dr Marten boots. The Daily Mirror or the Herald (latter day Sun)? ran stories with the headline 'Chelsea boot boys' with the use of the word somewhere 'Skinheads' . I can't remember where I've got this from - Dick Hebdige perhaps (Sub-culture or Reggae, rasta's and Rudies)?

Interesting!.....I wonder when the Tilbury Skins first came about then? Iived In Tilbury through the 90s and they had just passed by then. 70s and 80s most likely. But I remember a dark underbelly left by Tilbury. Savage in their day apparently. And you could tell by some of the old school left from that era.

The movement was very clicky and ARB and our followers were the black sheep. But to be fair we were a bit crap until we made a few personnel changes and the Tilbury Skins were a bit volatile at times. I don't think they thought investing in us could ever make them any money. But although the movie "Farming" was complete bullshit, the Tilbury Skins are today, the only real Skinhead gang in the world ever to of existed, to of been the focus of a Hollywood movie and to of appeared in a few themselves as actors. Things haven't really turned out that bad for us lot in the legacy department I would have to say.
