Making Calla Lily Video Tutorial

It's an 18 minutes video tutorial of making Calla Lily Flowers, I actually took much longer time making it.
(It's a HD video, you may set up the playing speed if you don't have much time viewing it!)
The 18 minutes video were edited more than 3.2 GB... in HD!! Well, finally finished and took a long time to upload. But also failed a few times when transferred the video format from video editing software. Somethin' just went wrong and partially became black... =___=
The video shown how to make two different shapes of Calla Lily from the spadix, petals to the stems etc step by step. You may make it bigger or smaller using the same methods but according to the proportion and the detail in the right scale. You can use colored clay without painting or just use Super Sculpey and paint it with acrylic paints after baked.
Basically, I use some simple tools, mostly fingers. And mane brush is important for the texture. You need to sense the softness and thickness of clay and play with it a lot. Take a good look at you reference. It's important that you look and study its anatomy. Also how to make it naturally beautiful! After coloring, imagine someone you love who receives it...! Anyway, enjoy! Hope you like it!

I normally sculpt my figurines in sections to get more details. And baked for a couple times when each parts finished. Some pieces even went in and out of the oven for more than 10 times. Of course, over baking is not good for this clay. The point is, each time of baking, lower down the temperature a bit and shorten the baking time according to the clay box said, cover the baked area with aluminum foil (aluminum baking sheet), especially thin and pointed areas to prevent burning. Only expose the unbaked soft clay area. That should keep you put in and out of the oven to probably 15 times or more. But the color of baked clay might go deeper. Each oven may vary, you'll need to test it and get a good temp and time for the balance. My oven is 30L size, I bake for small pieces, parts or whole figurines from 2~7 or 8 inches figures, each time in oven 10~15 minutes in 105~110°C/220~230°F (no preheat), "only turn on the lower heat, not the heat from top". Put your clay in a thick piece of cardboard. That should worked.

Yes, I bake the clay. It won’t keep the shape unless you bake it.

what kind of oil is that on the clean up brush?

That's nail polish remover, use it with nylon brushes for better result. Remember to test nail polish remover on a piece of clay first before you buy it. Since each brands may vary in its compounds. The nail polish remover should be able to dissolve the surface of clay. Otherwise it may look like water drops on clay and wouldn't work.

Like the result, but video is too drawn out, most of it on texturing the petal, which is easy enough and not necessary to repeat over and over again. Short and to the point is the secret to a good video. Like the flowers though, thank you.
