@@Slouworker It isn't that simple. most of that art is 2-dimensional, whereas miniatures are 3-dimensional, but with details so small that we have to create "new" effects. With NMM, you really can choose to have the light coming from anywhere; watch Sergio Calvo explain that in one of his capibase videos.

I greatly appreciate all the extra commentary in this video. Little tricks like how you blend out mistakes, or color choices, and the focus on the brush stroke method at the start are fantastic. I think it would be valuable to do a zoom in and demo on how thick the paint is for your starting blending some time. Definitely interested in where you take this model next, but I am also really interested in a video on how you do your wet blending in those amazing time lapse videos. Thank you for releasing these weekly videos, they are a great resource.

Hi angel, fantastic work. I've been painting for almost 2 years now and I'm pretty proud of my nmm, but I always use the same recipe, what I've seen here is something very different from what I've been doing, definitely gonna try. Next step is to wait for the intermediate gold technique lol, I've definitely loved what you made at the last CMON mini. Ty for the video.

Interesting use of warm colours in the highlights to increase contrast with the cold palette. Would the opposite hold true? e.g. if painting gold armour would you add cyan to white for the highlights?

Awesome video. Really helpful ... Loved the gold NMM video and this one tops it. Those colors are pretty nice and I wouldn't have thought about adding yellow/green as last highlight. I think what most people ... me included ... struggle with is the placement of reflections. Edges are a nobrainer ... but how you place those highlights on those bigger surfaces would be interessting. P.S. And how to keep the reflections and light situation consistent without loosing detail ... and paint boring uniform surfaces because there is no effect from any lightsource.

This is a fantastic tutorial. Surprised to see something of this level outside of some high tier patreon. Keep up the great work, you are always a great source of inspiration, even when I am burnt out or stuck on a model. Question: How would you apply this technique on chainmail or small lamellar plates(like on old high elf models' skirts)? Because so far I've noticed that NMM works better with larger flatter surfaces like plate or bladed weapons.
@AngelGiraldeZ
@AngelGiraldeZ 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words☺️. The process would be the same when you paint small surfaces but you should look more the contrast (lights and shadows) because the most important thing when you use this technique is the contrast. You have to paint one by one and exagerating the contrast. If you want, you can give me some info about problems you find when trying painting this models. Im interested in helping people with this issues and i can record some video solvin these questions that many of you use to have when painting this kind of surfaces. Any problem, just let me know ;)

Angel, is there a process for imagining where lights and shadows go on NMM? I think that is the hardest part, because some shapes aren't so simple, like convex shoulder pads (they look like bent bowls, lol).
@AngelGiraldeZ
@AngelGiraldeZ 4 жыл бұрын
The best way to solve this problem is watching some real metallic objects (and how to light affects them) or use some light and play with it and the metal object. This can be a way to see in your hand how light and a metal changes its L&S and just try to copy what you see. Hope it helps, if not, let me know ;)
@13Robzilla
@13Robzilla 4 жыл бұрын
I struggle with the placement as well, especially since most things are blends of shapes (Cylinder into a sphere into a plane etc.)and most metal source material is just a shape (sphere plane etc..) I started looking at old art instead especially 80-90's art that uses chrome. I have found art better than pictures or a miniature but everyone is different.

@@13Robzilla miniac had a video of NMM, where he painted some type of oil onto a model. then put a light where he wanted it. the oil caused these bright reflections/highlights accordingly and after a photo, you can clearly see the brighter areas vs darker.

Ok, I guess, I know my mistakes ( too big brush, too much and too thick paint). Question for long time painters but new to NMM... Do you recommend we go through the whole mini all at once to master the technique or focus on one area, like knee, or leg or chest? For me, I am still figuring out volumes and was just wondering which you think is best, hitting all the NMM areas in one pass or section by section to practice? Thank you,
@AngelGiraldeZ
@AngelGiraldeZ 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The most important thing is practice! When you have small goals and a result you like you can continue to bigger areas. At first not always the NMM are well done as if you were a pro, thats why is important to practice and be patient ;) Just paint little areas until you believe you have reached the highest improving level. But remember with constant work you can achieve great results. For beginners in NMM i recommend starting with little sections and then continue with the others. When you paint a lot of them, you can see mistakes and how to solve them. Anyway, you can practise also in a big section or all areas to check if you need more practice. Just play with painting and discover which mistakes or techniques you need to work with a little bit more. As i always say, if you need help, just let me know. Im here for help ;)
