She is 12yo here... And went out to play on the Swings with her little Sister after singing this.... She is two people... A child and a prodigy.. she learned to sing by listening to the best there was. And was able to use what she learned.. most people cant do that.

The 12 yo Angelina said that she just wanted to see what she could do with this song, so she sat down at her keyboard & began to improvise this haunting version. To me that is musical genius beyond belief. I can't wait until she starts playing for herself in concerts, where she can change the tempo as she feels it, rather than surprising a pianist trying to follow her.

Sorry for those of you who are fed up of me relating this point but I think it’s so prescient to the performance that I still think it’s worth sharing..”The music is not in the notes but in the silence between the notes” Debussy. Thank you once again for such an informative reaction..Angelina’s musical cheat code is the delivery of emotion..we wonder how she can make is feel as we do and I suspect it’s because she feels emotion herself at a deeply profound level..till the next one 🙏

Good analysis of what makes this so emotional. Angelina is an amazing singer in many ways, but what makes her unique, in my opinion, is her consistent ability to take iconic songs and go her own way with them, even at a very young age. Her musicality and her ability to interpret lyrics differently from the original is evident here-or in Bohemian Rhapsody, or Suspicious Minds, or Yellow Brick Road, etc. She is able to alter the melody, the tempo, the interpretation enough to make the songs completely hers, but not so much that we wish for the original. Angelina is a once in a lifetime gift-easily the best singer I’ve ever heard.

She's a great storyteller, let us feel how she interprets the meaning of the Song. Yes with a desperation why people lives without Love for others as Angelina describes it in her early book.between two hearts and her new song princess of Ruins 💕

The melancholic cry in her voice reminds me of Kathleen Ferrier (classical alto from ages ago). She doesn't create it, it's just there when she expresses the right emotion. She really is something else!

Impressive how well you caught on to the brilliance of this song. Did you know this was improvised? I don't know what is more impressive, playing in your garden and getting inspired to record this on the fly or planning for years to come up with it. I''ve heard jazz-singers in their 50's playing more with time than this, but then it becomes an intellectual exercise, not an emotional one. Angelina knows exactly how far she can push it, she has full control over every dimension of music. And with this performance she wrote the text-book for how to use tempo, timing and white-space to induce maximum emotion. It should be standard curriculum on every school of music.

Bravo, Paolo! I second the request of another commentator. Angelina's version of "Unchained Melody" at the recent Nobel Peace Prize formal concert is a new arrangement by Helge Sunde for the Norwegian orchestra, KORK. There are videos of Angelina and the orchestra director working together on the piece and the result is marvelous. I have no idea if Sunde was involved with AJ's part. It's not evident in the video, which was on live TV, but the interview with imprisoned Narges Mohammadi's twins, who accepted the prize for her, was occurring right in front of the orchestral stage, just to AJ's right. The twins are the same age as AJ and their comments were heart-breaking. AJ obviously heard it all. I believe that you can see a faint "track of a tear" in the makeup on her right cheek. So, an emotional setting for her in this important, live, performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqnHpnqJn6Z9edE

Angelina did thank Helge for giving her the trust with the arrangement, which to me indicates that she was very much involved 🙂

I enjoy your insights to music, especially Angelina's music, so very much, Paolo, but most especially this one! (sending a SuperThanks) For me this song has always been about obsession, and she transmits the innate desperation therein better than anyone else I've ever heard, including Chris Isaak, who I like a lot. HOW CAN A 12-YEAR-OLD UNDERSTAND, NOT TO MENTION TRANSMIT, SUCH DESPERATION???

Wonderful reaction Paolo....Angelina, as she is quite adept at musically, simply turns this song upside down and creates another entirely different song...her interpretation. I like your analysis and comments, they are quite true, and what you said about the piano is spot on, it is just background to Angelina's vocal instrument which is always perfectly in tune, she has amazing control over her instrument. She see's music differently than most I believe, hence her gift for creating new songs out of old songs. Chao Paolo. ❤❤

Wow. Your understanding of music is exceptional. Hope you stay with Angelina as I enjoy your insights. There is a piece I would love your interpretation on. It is her recent (17yo) performance of Unchained Melody at the Nobel Peace Prize presentation with a full orchestra. Someone had a similar take on the end of the song as she ends it in head voice in g5. It is like she sings it right on the precipice of failing to hold the note but it is done with near perfection, giving us a sense of tension throughout the section then relief--ending without fail. You will also get to hear her current mature voice so your take on the change that occurred with getting older would be interesting as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqnHpnqJn6Z9edE Can't wait. Thanks again. I gladly subscribed.

Bravo! I found this reaction very insightful. You seem to understand what she is doing and how purposeful she is in projecting the feelings, emotions, and meaning in a song. You might be surprised at how many "experts" see the same things you see (hear) and think they are mistakes she is making. I don't know if you are thinking "outside the box" or that you work inside a much larger box than your contemporaries. Well done!

Thank you for your compliments. To tell the truth, in what I do, I really like to use intuition, which allows me to perceive emotions better than technique alone.

@@PaoloBassotto I think it is more difficult for men to trust intuition. You have to be really strong and confident to accept your own feelings as being as valid and worthy of consideration as any other way of knowing.

Magnifica analisi! Grazie Paolo complimenti!! Great analysis! The difficulty of this masterpiece lies precisely in its simplicity where what counts is the desperate emotion conveyed by the text, I perfectly agree with being borderline on the notes but, Angelina has a frightening timing on the notes which allows him to do what he he wants and then use it to accentuate the dramatic effect, incredible how he stripped the song down to the bare essentials. Thanks Paolo, congratulations!!
