'My Funny Valentine' is a show tune from the 1937 written by Richard Rodgers (composer) and Lorenz Hart (lyricist) coming of age musical Babes in Arms in which it was introduced by teenaged star Mitzi Green.
Judy Garland premiered a version of 'My Funny Valentine' in a radio show in 1937.
Chet Baker recorded his version of 'My Funny Valentine' in 1952
I have followed Angelina's amazing musical journey since she won the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent 🤩, where I voted for her.

I was a sax player in my youth and played a lot of old school standards, jazz, etc., and the first time I heard Angelina (at 8 on "Summertime") she just totally took my breath away. Back then, selfishly, I hoped she'd stick more solidly in the jazz idiom as an adult for just the sort of reasons you mention, but I realized pretty quickly that that wasn't going to happen. So it's especially satisfying for me to hear her cover this classic live in Vegas. (Obviously, all the things she learned cutting her teeth on jazz in her youth are brought to the table no matter what genre she sings now or will sing in the future - all of that skill, knowledge and technique just enriches everything that comes out of her mouth.)

Oh, when you mention 'Summertime', I remember the adult band from the 80s, where I had to play the trumpet solo on it and 'Porgy and Bess'. Nice that you found 'I Have Nothing' from Kurbadhagen. @@glaknut I played mainly alto and soprano, but dabbled with the tenor and other woodwinds. "In the Mood," certainly. So many times at one point that I probably could have played it in my sleep 😇. Back in high school, we had a "Pops Concert" every spring where we'd set up in the gymnasium so parents/guests could get up and dance. Tons of "Great American Songbook" standards. (Cool with your trumpet solo on "Summertime." Imagine playing it with Angelina on stage?! No pressure!)

​@@Owen_S.Realize you've played a lot in the past. Cool! Yes, some pieces are "played in pieces" so you may get bored. But Soprano, I like to understand, is the most difficult of the saxes to play? You know what? I was with a Norwegian big band, for the sake of the trip called "Oslo All Star Big Band" to play at golf clubs in North Dakota and Minnesota, in 1984. We traveled around for 2 weeks. Nice trip. I think our young man who played trumpet for Angelina on 'Summertime' in Norske Talenter did a great job! Well yes, it would have been fun and joined a Christmas song once if everyone else had been busy...😁🎺

@bockviken, Jeg synes han spiller bra soloer her. Du må også huske på at å kjøre improvisasjons-soloer krever innsikt og erfaring i å legge seg riktig i akkordbildet for låta. Kul bruk av Harmon-mute på melodiføringen som jo passer bra i denne jazzy genren. Han ligger noen ganger litt høyt på noen toner der han bruker Harmon-muten, som han kunne ha stemt ned.❤️🎺
