Pablo Picasso once said : " A good Artist copies...A great Artist Steals." From Gloomy Sunday on, I have heard Angelina "Steal" the vocal tibres, inflections and flourishes from Bille Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Nina Simone, Astrid Gilberto, Elvis Presley, James Brown(!), and so many others! And not just when covering one of their classic songs! ( Am I the only one who hears a bit of Aretha Franklin in her rendition of "It's a Man's World"? or a whisper of Marlene Dietrich in "I Put a Spell on You"?) She has assembled a vocal palette of "colors" from some of the greatest singers in Recorded music history with which she Paints emotional masterpieces upon the hearts of her listeners.

Great reaction Nathan, I love Angelina's jazz performances and this re-reading of MJ is sensational. Her slow, rough voice on this song makes the lyrics that much more understandable and emotional. She always manages to fill the words with meaning and instill an incredible emotional capacity in her voice which, added to her wonderful jazz inflection that always characterizes her, makes her truly truly unique.
