MJ was 24 years old when he wrote this angry POP song in 1982 about Billie Jean. As MJ's most successful single, it is frightening for me to read in the comments in over 150 reaction videos that many do not know the lyrics, do not grasp the topic. Everyone remembers the "beat" that "Hiiiii", "Ooo" and his dance moves didn't really listen to. In her jasszy cover Angelina tells the story about the Billie Jean from her point of view without changing the text. Only through Angelina's arrangement, interpretation and empathy do many people hear and understand the story about the sad story of BillieJean. 💯 AJ 💯

I often do not listen so much to the lyrics when I hear songs. I'm more focused on the voice and on the notes, and the band. With AJ it is different, she hands you the lyrics on a silver spoon. AJ with all her vocal ornaments and interesting turns is plenty to keep me occupied and sucked into the music, but the lyrics are so clear and present at the same time. Another side to her magical singing ❤

Linda Yet, a lot of people complain that she chews her words and can't understand what she's singing. Yellow Brick Road comes to mind. Personally, her creativity with her pronunciations, is one of her main attractions.

I agree about being still. Crossing arms is a defensive gesture. It's a defensive interpretation, but she has to use one hand for the mike. It goes with the other negations of being the one - Uhuh, hmhm, head shaking, etc. She's not opening herself to be contradicted.

I like when reactors comment on how intelligent her musical choices are. Most are too enthralled by how much they love her voice and don't seem to realize what skill and taste it takes to stir the kind of feelings In other people that Angelina does. It's the main reason behind her success. She treats her voice like a jazz instrument and she has learned to do incredibly neat things with it from a very early age. There's science behind her magic, but it's still magic. 😎
@ron4mac2 жыл бұрын
I believe Angelina's very subdued physical animation in this video was very intentional. And toward that end, keeping her left arm across her waist with the right elbow kind of holding it in place was to help her not automatically do the arm and hand gesturing that she nearly always does. Even so, you can see her left hand have a hard time staying still. I can only guess as to why this was intentionally done.

I know Angelina can sing incredibly well sitting down because we’ve seen her unbelievable cover of the Etta James classic, I’d Rather Go Blind. But I think this is Angelina lip-synching this one for the video in those different locations. Her sitting body language is chill, clearly fitting the vibe of her arrangement. It’s hard to imagine any singer covering this because Angelina arranged this for those unique vocal qualities and musicality that make her so immediately recognizable.

I love to watch the "body language" of Angelina too, especially her hands, they seem to direct her ways of singing. Eversince she was young. On the other hand I know she prepares her video's in close consultation with her artistic grandma and the creative department of RR. All in good democracy. So, it's probably on purpose to support the storytelling. Maybe the fact that MJ was very restricted in what he could do in real life!

Very nice reaction. I love your joy and that little laughter. 👍😁 About her "lack" of movement; - I guess you said it. It`s storytelling. That`s what she is all about in this one, and also in her similar prodused video, singing "Yesterday". Not a lot of movments in that one either, as she has placed herself in a shopping cart. No room for much movement at all. But her storrytelling; - it`s like from another planet. The lyricks really stand out in these productions. Many has said that it was like they first got into what this song is all about, when they heard Angelina sing it. I myself find myself is in that group. I am convinced that Angelina`s choises in these videos, positioning herself, is kind of experimental, but deffintively quite thought through by her. I think of it even as playfulness. I'm so happy you are getting to this magnificent Jazz rendition of Billie Jean. I read somewhere that she was using the colors to try and express Michael Jackson's personal story, trying to honor some of his struggle? But I don't know the source of it. I like her stillness---she's not trying to be MJ at all, yet in her voice, I hear him and can see him. It is like his dance moves are in the way she manipulates her voice. Her voice is doing the dancing, so her body is holding still. I also never heard all of the words until she sang this. And my kids and I used to dance to this around the house. She is so clever here--the story more opened, the honoring of MJ, and I wonder if Quincy Jones put her up to this as a sort of creative challenge. I totally love this as you do. I love the details you pointed out, like the ad-libs in the beginning, and the low notes. Have you reacted to anything from this year, 2022? There are 3 gorgeous music videos: "My Funny Valentine" (Nina Simone?), "Suspicious Minds" (Elvis), and the big, "I Have Nothing" (Whitney Houston). She also dropped her covering Duffy's song, "Mercy" as the intro for the movie, The Hating Game. AND at her live concerts this summer in Norway, she surprised everyone with a new cover: "Mt Everest" by Labrinth. There may have been some other new covers---the older, detail-tracking Angels can tell you about that. There are live performances of all covers, but not Billie Jean. Anyway, I'm so happy you got to Billie Jean. Thank you so much for this reaction. Your last question: There is some noise that her album next year will contain NEW original music. In the meantime, there are something like 5 original songs. Do go to Million Miles next. It is a gorgeous song. 💜

Your reactions are very informative...Your explaining of the vocal technique while appreciatiing this unique and rare vocal instrument are great lessons for all singers. . Angelina is rare physically too..she's very tall and I would imagine that her vocal chords are longer than the average woman's chords which would be a simple explaination as to the darker color and depth of her tone. Like the long strings on the piano...and then you put that all together with the fact that she's been singing, learning vocal technique and imitating the vocal giants of the past as her chords are growing. So there you have imo the recipe for this sound of hers..Her musicianship is so precise and crisp...what she does with a few notes is ear bending!

The colors remind me of cartoons/comic book frames made in the 1950s/60s. Many tv shows/movies around that time used these colors eg classic Batman and West Side Story (1961) in the opening part. The jazz style is reminiscent of Dave Brubeck's classic Take 5 (1959). My belief is everything (including the furnishings) were specifically chosen to evoke that time period.

"Million miles" is obviously a good Idea and if you chose this one, you should listen to the studio version 1st and why not to one of the live versions she did in Norway last July (as asked by several Angelina's fans). "Million miles" is her debut with Republic Records with whom she signed in 2020 when she was 14 yo. In future, you could also react to "7th heaven" wich is very different from "Millions miles", but a good example of Angelina's style. Would you consider doing a review of Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" I admit, I'm NOT a Sinatra Fan but I would like to hear a professional explain what it is about his singing that people like so much, I don't hear any emotional connection or artistry, All I hear is a decent baritone voice singing the words and notes. What am I missing?

love this! What is interesting to me is Angelina uses her hands a lot when she sings, but here she is kind of covering her body, behind the desk, she seems more free. This is also the first time I am seeing her in tighter clothes. I am thinking she might have been a little self-conscious of her new teenage body. Thankfully she has grown used to it.

Really great reaction and analysis. As regards to the colour scheme of the video, I beleive that Angelina is paying homage to Michael Jackson and the official music video ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJrCiX-Fd6milbs&ab_channel=michaeljacksonVEVO ) as when you watch it through you will see the predominent colours are red, yellow and purple.

Omer Bhatti, referred to as MJ's "eldest son" (though in fact he is not) is treated like an older brother by MJ's children. Born in Oslo, he is a rapper and dancer and was on the jury when AJ started her career in NGT. He is now friends with AJ and her family. So he is in the fortunate position of knowing, or having known, the King of Pop and the Queen of Jazz personally. His mother was also MJ's son's nanny. At AJ's request, Omer asked MJ's mother if she could do this song. That's why today we can be happy about this unique version of Angelina.

This is an Original! Experts agree, that “I’m Still Holding Out For You” is an Angelina Original! An original, is any song which was not recorded by any artist before, it may be composed by the person singing it, or by someone else. Baby FuzZ and a Three others wrote this song at a Music Camp. Thus, he did the “Cover” that Angelina had already recorded in 2016, at 10, and published prior. Uploaded Nov. 11, 2018, Demo or not. His offical video, published 12/9/18, (two years later) was met with very little fanfare. He has since, given her Copyright and his blessing to make a proper recording of the song. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqebnp15nZqcn6c

I wondered why she sat still like that too but I believe that it's to keep continuity between the different color changes and scene changes so that it's fluid. If she were making lots of gestures the scenes wouldn't flow smoothly. Ron from California USA

Why would you say that Jjack, er, I mean Jim Jack? So many singers, vocal coaches, musicians, and reactors feel she has the talent and the ability to reach that spot. And they all can't believe she's only 16 years old! That's right, 16 YEARS OLD! The only people that can't believe or accept this are jealous negative trolls or are fans of other singers like Haley Rinehart but aren't getting the attention like Angelina is. I feel sorry for these individuals because I'm living rent free in their heads. Oh well, thank you for adding yourself to this reactor's KZbin algorithm AND to Angelina's as well! Have a good day NobelPrize!
