I totally agree, Angelina is creating her own genre. There is no one to compare her to. She has sung impressively in more than 10 genres and used that education and practice to reach this point. Remember she is only 18 and her voice will continue to mature for at least 7 more years. Exciting and scary. Angelina did not perform with Toby on June 20th, but a number of angels attended and got to speak with Toby. Toby said he hopes to have a full concert with Angelina, in the LA area. No timeframe given. Please be sure you are subscribed to Angelina's Official KZbin channel as she is approaching one million. Let's get her there by her 19th birthday on January 10th. Toby said a few months, but has not decided a date or venue. (I sense he also still needs to discuss the idea with AJ & Co.) We briefly discussed size. He mentioned 200, and we let him know that she already sold out 900 after a 15 month hiatus and about 1200 about 5 months later. (He also thought Vegas may have been Elvis themed. We clarified that also.)

Toby has written Grammy award-winning songs for such artists as Beyoncé, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, and more. He has taken Angelina under his wing and this is their first original song together. They are working on others. The song seems to be designed around Angelina's vocal skills and shows every one of them to the world. Toby is the genius who has facilitated this, but Angelina, with the passion that you can see on her face, and hear in her voice, brings this to life! I believe this is the opportunity that we have long awaited for her and when this is released will likely launch her career to the next level! Peace.

Personally I think Toby may be getting a little too much credit. We have heard mind blowing performances from Angelina since she was a young girl such as Lovin’ You and It’s a Man’s World among many others . I think more of the credit goes to Angelina herself. We don’t know what percentage of the songwriting is Angelina and which is Toby. From what I’ve read about If I Were a Boy, that song was more BC Jean with some help from Toby. I’m not discounting his abilities but Angelina has always been capable of this type of performance.

@@pjg58x I don't deny anything you said but I think maybe misinterpreted what I said. Yes of course Angelina has done great performances over the years that we've all enjoyed. But this is another level. Toby has a huge name in reputation in the industry. He is a multi Grammy award winning songwriter. There is no question that he helped Angelina with the writing of this song in a big way. Without him, this particular song would likely not exist as we've heard it. But with that said, even with a great song that he was involved in writing, Angelina is the one that brings it to life with her passion and soulfulness. It is as good or better than anything she has done in my opinion. This is a collaboration and it's the combination of both of them working together here with his writing skills and her performance skills that make the magic.

@@ronraskindI agree that you may be making too many assumptions. Angelina has never written a bad song; and I would say they all excel for different reasons. When Grammy winning pianist Rob Christie was thanked for mentoring Angelina, his response was, it might be the other way around. Toby has said pretty clearly a few times recently that his technique is creating a setting for the artist to tap into their own experiences and emotion. He also likes to attempt many melodic versions until they find the one. His own recount of writing All Of Me with John Legend was writing two phases that got John unstuck, and then John took over again. I’m more inclined to put Toby and Angelina on equal footing. He personally complimented Angelina to me on Thursday, basically recognizing her as one of the best of all time.

@@dojoswitzer Doug, we are on the same page. The only thing I have assumed is that having Toby Gad involved in this venture benefits Angelina tremendously. It is senseless to try to speculate who was responsible for what percentage of the writing. Maybe Angelina brought lyrics or Melody or vice versa. Whether Angelina was responsible for writing 40% of it or 80% of it doesn't matter. This is a collaboration that has produced magic and I am very pleased no matter what percentage each contributed. As for the vocal performance, there is no question as we know!

Who is the bad Valentine? Every good story is about development of the characters, preferably with a twist or realization on the way. While in the beginning it sounds like Angelina as the protagonist is cold and bad, we find out as we listen that it is not the case. She wants passion, fire and honesty. He is insincere, dispassionate and somewhat self absorbed - sees/hears only what he wants to see and hear, therefore will never really know her. If all passion is lost on his world, who is the bad Valentine? Angelina is an outstanding storyteller. Don't expect to get the whole story from the first verse. Your reaction adds so much to the enjoyment of this song... I never knew how she would progress going forward. While she so was great in the past, I was a little disappointed in some of her other original work. While certainly this is a collaboration with Toby, it is so much Angelina. I feel she's found her direction in this incredible performance. With so many beautiful songs over many years, I feel this is her best... It showcases Angelina's talent at it's finest. One of the most difficult (but entirely enjoyable) conundrums many of us face, as Angelina's Angels, is trying to decide what is her best performance, because they ALL seem to be. For me personally, some of her most magnificent performances were Unchained Melody (Nobel Peace Prize version), If I Were A Boy (Toby Gad Piano Diaries version), I Have Nothing (studio version), It's A Man's World (with Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps), I Put A Spell On You (black and white edition), I Keep Holding Out For You, Diamond...and the list seems endless. But to me, there is no doubt that Bad Valentine is her most powerful, potent overall performance to date. This is mind-shattering good. I pray that this takes her to the stratosphere of the music world, where she emphatically belongs.

If you've ever had a bad boyfriend, you can picture the guy who would dump you by saying you've been a fool to take it seriously. She can enter the persona of anyone, but I feel sad to think she might have gone through this personally. Her vocal rises into a dramatic aria level in this one. Amazing us yet again! My concern isthat the arrangement is to well crafted for general population. Theres a pop song she covered famous by Kelly and it has 1.5 billion views, ten years, but the song was very singable four notes that barely make a melody but its what sells.
