I had to laugh... You were sitting there motionless, with your mouth open. My mother would have said "You trying to catch flies?" I love seeing all the people discover the talent and genius of this young lady. She has had a decent sized following of us loyal fans for several years, but now the world will get to experience her with the exposure of Americas Got Talent. Another of my favorites is, "Angelina Jordon - I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston Tribute)" which was posted last year, shortly after she turned 13. Great Rap! Yeah Screamin Jay didn't do this arrangement, LOL. His was always popular during Halloween when I was a kid. Angelina's version would have been at home on stage with the Dorsey Brother's Orchestra in the 30s.

I accidentally bought the Screaming jay track when I was looking for a record with someone singing "I put a spell on you" which Annie Lennox had just sang at the grammys. I liked her version way better. A.'s song is very much like his track, apparently he wrote the song back in 40's, or 50's?. A.'s Iranian grandmother was a visual arts prodigy and when she was ready for college, she asked her father to send her to Japan for school because she wanted to study some art processes they used there. She was also a big jazz fan and had a collection she used to let Angelina play with when she took care of her if her mom needed help. Now all of this info I picked upon the internet from her fans so I can't vouch for it. The only thing I know is that the one thing I contributed is positively true. I have heard, owned, and seen a video of screaming jay and I will never forget him, his screams and growls, or his version of his song.

I Put A Spell On You was written by Screaming Jay Hawkins in 1956, but it's probably more know for it's numerous covers through the years by artist like Nina Simone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bryan Ferry, Bette Midler, Jeff Beck & Joss Stone and Annie Lennox. From these and countless other versions that I've heard, this is the one that is closest to the original, but still with a very strong flavor of Angelina Jordan. To say that it's "a cover" isn't quite doing it justice. It is more of a homage the original composer and a _thank you_ for his contribution to the music world. After all, this song is _one of the 500 songs that shaped Rock&Roll_ in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland and included in Rolling Stone magazine's list of _The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time._

Thanks for another reaction to Angelina. This was her cover of a song by Screamin Jay Hawkins, who wrote and recorded the song in 1956.It is his face on the candle Angelina is holding at the beginning of the video. Angelina a;ways chooses the song she wishes to sing - and often her choices are mind blowing - and will makes changes to both lyrics and music to suit what she wants from her performance. The notes she is busily writing at the beginning are last minute instructions to the instrumentalists of how she wishes them to play! Her knowledge of music is outstanding by any measure. It matters not that she is still young. There would be few other singers who could match her ability. And as a human, she is one of the most caring and humble persons. In her performances she doesn't go in for theatrics, doesn't introduce low or high notes just to show how good she is. In Angelina's case "less is more". She adapts her voice to reflect the true emotion of the lyrics and music and has the innate ability to be able to communicate those same emotions to her listeners. I am in awe of her! Disney wanted to own her after this video, but her mom put the brakes on, she wanted her to have a somewhat normal childhood and graduate from her grammar school in Oslo. She made a good decision, she is more mature now and I am sure been taught by her family for the fame that comes now.

This was a cover of Screaming Jay Hawkins I Put A Spell On You. You see his face on the candle at the beginning of the video. She pays homage to him and goes ahead and arranges all the music for her version. Those are the notes that she hands over to the music director. All this from an 8 yr old. If that isn't enough to blow your mind then she also has a YT video of her in a jam session with those same musicians rehearsing another lesser known Jay Hawkins song called Portrait of A Man, but she changed the lyrics a bit to suit her so it will be in under Jam Session -Portrait of A Child. She is downright haunting in that one and sounds even more like and older vocalist. Check it out, it's going to blow you away! Again!

Yep!! When I watched this video (and was blown away of course) I noticed this same video of the jam session with those same guys. Hey, that was simply unbelievable!!! She has music in her veins! This girl is simply an unstoppable artist, her voice is incomparable, and she master singing technics that most of adults pro singers only dream to reach!! She is already a legend with only 14 (since yesterday). I'll be watching and hearing each step of this phenomenal artist career!!!!

Thank you for your comments. She was 9 when she recorded this, but it was released when she was 10. Yes, this is a cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' rendition in 1956. She rewrote the lyrics to be age-appropriate, I understand. The jazz band is really great. She passes out instructions to the musicians and audio techs when she arrives at a session! In my opinion, she is the foremost jazz singer alive today, although she can cover any genre with ease. Like you say, what will she be like at 18 or 20?
