Alex, I'm reminded of a quote by Frank Sinatra, " I never let my singing get in the way of the song". Angelina is the epitome of that sentiment. An artist that refrain from dominating a song, even though they could, is the true masterclass artist. ♾Rb

I have followed Angelinga more or less from the day she appeared on «Norske talenter». I normally do not care for child singers, but Angelina was so totally different from all the child singers I had listened to before. She was something totally different. From tone one, she demostrated control of (a great) voice, timing and we could feel her feelings and passion in every song she sang. Her songs and performences from when she was a child is still overwhelming to listen to. At a very eary age (young child) she sort of demanded from her performences, that we all take her seriousely. She «ment serious business from the start». My concern now is that she will (also)be «swolloved» up by the American system, and we all «loose» a magnificent (maybe one of a kind) blues and jazz artist. I really hope she will continue with music in the blues and the jazz genre. I will also add that I understand she is still a very young girl, and is very understandable that she maybe wish to discover many other things - but it still my wish she will continue with blues and jazz, where in my mind, she has her greatest performences so far.

Billie Holiday style jazz singing comes to the fore in this concert rendition of the song that she did when she was much younger. In that rendition, only a simple guitar 'keeping time' for her by a good friend named Ivan was needed to make the listener feel the ultimate penetration of emotion she brought forth in that 'at home' jam session.

Alex, another great reaction to Angelina! Isn't it wonderful how she can perform the same song in such very different ways? I'm in the minority on this, but I found this version to be a bit too disjointed, and although I love how she often slows things down to emphasize the lyrics, this one, for me, didn't have the dreamlike flow on a vocal cloud that her version with Ivan did. That one still remains at the top of my very, very long list of Angelina favorites! Have a super day Alex!

The reason why more singers do not slow down songs like this, is because it highlights every flaw. Plus you have to have subtleties in vocal dynamics and texture colour and here her vibrato, otherwise in the hands of 70% of good singers the song loses pace interest and just becomes boring. In the hand of a virtuoso like Angelina her ability to convey emotion, to invest every syllable every consonant with purpose, meaning and interest means her renditions cannot be copied. Approximated, never bettered.

Part of good singing is about the right interpretation of a song and understanding what the lyrics are telling us. There are not many singers who can do that but Angelina is one of them who can. And in addition to that she understands the art of (very) slow singing and still stay perfectly in tune. And that really is very, very difficult to do.

I actually prefer her 12 year old version in its youthful simplicity, purity and vocal timbre. The tempo and minimal reverb of the early version is also to my liking.
