I totally get the emotion this performance provoked on you. Specially if you had the Elvis version in mind, this one Angelina arranged like a balad hits you hard. Not only because you can really understand the lyrics and the story behind it, but mainly listening to the power and yet softness in her voice. Angelina slowed this song down and uncovered it so that you hear the lyrics rather than just the musical beat as Elvis did. Her voice is stellar, and as you said, with all her influences. And with that, she evoked emotion on another level. Once Angelina gets you like that, you realize everything the angels have been telling you is true. There's something magical going on and you realize it more and more over time. I highly recommend Angelina's version of Unchained Melody from the musical in Portsmouth New Hampshire concert from a month ago. It is certainly up there with one of Angelina's finest performances. You're absolutely right, Elvis' cover of this song is very upbeat, almost a happy song. This video is full of visual references to Elvis. It can be seen as a tribute to him, it was released in time for last year's premiere of the Elvis biopic you mentioned and brought Angelina a lot of attention and a meeting with Pricilla Presley. It shows very well why Elvis is called a great entertainer and Angelina a master storyteller who is able to convey emotions like no other. Angelina pays tribute to Elvis while bringing back the meaning the original artist/songwriter (Mark James) intended, so the impact is different. Your brain may comprehend it better this time, because Angelina is now almost 6 feet tall and looks like the grown woman her voice belongs to, but she's still a 16-year-old teenager here. And you can expect something special when a Grammy winner plays his own piano arrangement as accompaniment. 😉

The pianist Rob Christie (music studio director of Republic Records distribution of UMG, two-time Grammy winner) changed the musical arrangement and Angelina changed the vocal arrangement, but she didn't change the lyrics. Angelina changes the lyrical structure starting with the bridge and gives the song a different meaning than Felton Jarvis and Mark James , Angelina version absolutely fits the lyric better. Once again, many people don't hear and understand the song until Angelina tells the story. 👣 💯 *AJ* 💯👣 The producer Felton Jarvis from Elvis Presley cleverly covered this *Mark James song from 1968 in 1969* , Elvis' last #1 hit in the US and #7 of his most successful songs. Felton Jarvis took the original country arrangement completely from Mark James and pushed the song with more speed and additional instruments (wind instruments, violin etc.) and a spectacular backing choir (in the studio version).

My thoughts on this, Power & Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. I think that makes them cousins not nieces. Full Black Leather Bodysuit, the guitar from his concert in 68 and the hair a homage to Priscilla Presley. Yeah! She can bring tears to your eyes. I base my interpretation on my knowledge of Angelina's journey from an 18 month old little girl singing a "classic" of music history 'I Will Always Love You' . She has been listening to these classics on repeat on KZbin since then under the guidance and inspiration of her Grandmother Mery Zamani. She has been performing these classics since her first time in studio at 6 yrs old.. She has continued this journey through her 1st introduction to the world with her "Classic'" 'Gloomy Sunday’ and following with her many performances at her many Jazz Festivals, TV performances, Concerts, and charity events, studio recordings and practice sessions at home accompanied or not. The location in the Antique store represents these classics (like the furniture) of another era. To me she portrays wonder at all these classics surrounding her. as she has travelled this road. Her tribute to Elvis is at her present age, today, each stage represented by her cousins and sister and ending with Angelina herself on the couch still admiring all this history surrounding her. Angelina signed with Republic in August 2020 at age 14, and he has become her mentor and a close friend of her and her family. My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.
