Just gonna say it. I enjoy the new stuff both Blink and AVA are releasing. As a life long fan I was sad to see the change and seperation and while I don't enjoy every single song, I still like it. Most people will disagree and that's just as fine. Just don't forget it's still fine to enjoy it all. There's no time to compare, hate or even overthink it. Just be grateful they made their impact one way or another

I think you're correct that he largely views Blink from a financially pragmatic point now and that it's largely unsentimental business to him currently. Like if he were really sentimental about it, he'd have prolly tried to block Cali+Nine, however ever the clever, calculating business person he knows it's to his financial benefit to allow them to go around trying to pump up Blink's streaming revenue etc[which he gets a cut of[iunno if he gets a cut of new releases, however we all know the tours prolly generate almost as much activity for the hits as they do for the NeoBlink rubbish]...] and it also gets him off the hook of being hounded aggressively by buffoons that can't appreciate anything Blink does outside of the Blink banner, they still do plague his online presence a bit, however it could be a lot worse. If all he cared about was money AVA could have toured a lot more and he could have prolly retooled some of their tracks into smash hit radio edits[like seriously, had he edited the intros for radio on tracks like Saturday Love or Mercenaries and gone out and aggressively toured them as soon as the Blink schism reignited, he'd have likely made bank.], It's not about that to him though. Dude has lots of money and is happy to let Blink go generate residuals for him. It is sorta true that I agree with you that if he really needed the money I could see him going back, however I don't think he was as motivated by money as you're alleging regarding the reunion. It's not like he was ever hurting financially. Honestly I'd be sorta surprised if he actually went back for another record+Huge tour with Blink. Maybe if To The Stars media projects really bomb, otherwise I think he mostly says that he's open to further Blink performances for the sake of press and calming the buffoons by telling them what they want to hear...

I second this, but I would add that blink 182 needs to just write songs with mouth outside influence, having Feldman and now this new team of songwriters is what has prevented blink with Skiba to be great in my opinion, like there are songs like cynical, bored to death, 6/8, left alone and happy days, which are like wow, but the she’s out of her mind and blame it on my youth are between meh and over produced(BIOMY would sound better raw)

I said this in another comment, but it’s clear as night and day how much Tom was the creative glue that kept the band together artistically. Based off older interviews, Mark just wanted to keep making the same material that did well. Tom was starving creatively and pushed the band to go further. Which is how we got the brilliant self titled record - which an evolution of their sound, and most adventurous record musically speaking. Neighborhoods had flaws, but it was still interesting musically and had more hits then misses which was impressive given it was their first time playing together in 10+ years. It’s also aged well with time. The Dog Eat Dog EP was also fantastic. But it’s obvious after Tom left, that Mark wanted to take the bands legacy and re-package it for a mass market. I hate the term sell out, since artists should be able to make money. But he literally sold out, when he took and older Blink track and remixed it for a shitty gimmick. And the new material feels absolutely formulaic and soulless. The new Angel and Airwaves tracks just prove to me the difference between these two artists. Even if you don’t like these tracks, listen to how much more involved the songs are musically. How much effort went into the production compared to Blinks new singles. Also IMO Angels last album was criminally underrated. A dark / synthy record, that has some of Toms best vocals and lyrics to date. So I’m actually excited for this new record.

My problem with blink currently is that they are mid-40's adult men still writing songs about girls and "living for the weekend" like they are still in their early 20's. Plus, the music structure is not evolving, it's back pedalling. It seems like they want so hard to sound like Enema and TOYPAJ, when I think they should have continued the evolution with Neighborhoods and Dogs Eating Dogs, musically. Tom wanted to evolve and has an idea for how blink should have evolved and I think you're hearing that in this song. I have tons of respect for Mark and Travis, but I feel like Tom was the true creative fire behind blink. Just my opinion.

Emery Nebraska Martin Problem is the lyrics on the songs on Enema were more clever than what Mark and Matt now seem to be capable of writing together. Composition-wise, they don’t even change up the choruses on their songs and rarely use bridges or instrumentals or anything to keep it interesting. The song structure on Enema’s songs and later Tom-Era Blink songs were far stronger in my opinion, with catchy riffs and various layered guitar patterns and I’m not surprised why Mark and Matt can’t replicate that. Matt’s a good singer, but he plays mostly just chords because that’s what fits Trio; it doesn’t fit Blink though. Then you have Mark who only really knows power chords on the guitar. Travis is the only guy on his A-game, but the best he can do is just work with what Mark and Matt give him. I’m already certain the most creative parts of Simple Creatures’ stuff is done by Alex not Mark, and I’m not even an ATL fan. Then there’s the painfully cringe “hello, fellow kids” side of current Blink-182. Darkside was a decent song, but rather than strengthening it with a mature and thought-provoking music video, they went with kids fortnite dancing in a school gym.

Maybe the cliche comments are true and their relationship never recovered from Box Car... however Mark[w/Travis]'s the one that made the irreversible call to force Tom out rather than try to resolve their differences in a reasonable manner. It was classless. They didn't do Blink without Tom in 2005, there's no justification for what happened in 2015.
