I still remember seeing this episode when it premiered. And the final scene...when he reveals he is an angel of the lord... My mind was blown but my heart soared! Big fan of angels! And his final lines... gives me goosebumps still to this day.

Misha auditioned with his Castiel voice because he was told Castiel would only be in a few episodes but then was told Castiel would be in the show longer than that and regretted the decision. Jared and his future wife met for the first time on set for this episode and now they have three kids. Tom, Shep, and Odette and have worked together on Jared’s show Walker.

Supernatural's are separated and defined by the showrunners, so 1-5 is the Kripke era of the show before he moved onto another project (and now to the Boys). I'm a bit partial to S8-S11. Also, Sam is actually jacked. He was vying for the Conan the Barbarian film role at the time, so he's putting on a lot of muscle.

OMG! Finally! You have no idea how long I waited for you to get to this episode! The introduction of Castiel is just so iconic. The flashing lights, the shadow wings, everything How he looks at Dean with his beautiful blue eyes and asks, "You don't think you deserve to be saved?" You said it beautifully; that was a summarization of Dean's self-esteem. I can't wait to watch you react to the rest of the season. ❤❤❤

I love this season opener I just watched it the other day because of the arrival of our winged Angel Castiel. Things of note, Jared really liked the new Ruby cos he married her and had kids (still together btw) Dean returned from hell with a tan and lookin good, seeing how much Bobby was grieving was heart-breaking thank god (see what I did there hehe) they had the funny moments of trying to kill Dean (again) Sam's face when he realises its really him (tears every time)

So you've seen until ep S4.11. A little behind-the-scenes info for you ... Some of those plot arcs from ep. 1 to 11 were how they were supposed to save Dean in Season 3. He wasn't supposed to go to hell, Sam was going to save Dean by working with Ruby. Because of the writers' strike during 2nd half of Season 3, the writers could not work during those times, they only managed to flesh out the arc properly until ep. Jus in Bello before the strike occurred. Notice that the quality dropped after that episode because they've stopped working, and thus cannot give proper time to cook their plots for the remaining season. When they resumed work, they have to quickly finish the rest of the season and only have time to give a proper goodbye to Bela (she was supposed to have a full arc, mirroring Dean). They had to, instead of saving Dean, sent him to hell and to shift focus to the Season 4 arc by saving him via the angel. Angel wasn't on the radar before that - it was not even on the map. But this was a very happy accident that they went through that route, as we were introduced to Castiel, Angel of the Lord, a very intriguing and charismatic character. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

That’s interesting! I did think it was odd how in the last few episodes of season 3 the focus on saving Dean got pushed to the side for the sake of monster-of-the-week episodes. This explains it! But as season 4 is exceptional I guess it’s great that things didn’t pan out how they hoped 😁

@@TheCornerverse Yeah, one episode was such a reality show-like one, Ghostfacers, which in my opinion they had to come up with pretty quickly. If I recall correctly, the scenes and camera-work were mostly by the "actors" so they didn't have to spend too much time on blocking scenes. Then, Long Distance Call episode, which to me is kinda meh. The only worth-mentioning episodes were the penultimate one - pretty gross and dark - and the season finale. I cannot wait to see your reaction to 4.03 In The Beginning! ...
