Күн бұрын

Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery has long been a favorite location for Hollywood movies and television shows. We will explore some of the places where classic movies were made with such stars as Frank Sinatra, Bette Davis and Will Farrell. Plus we will take a look back at a scandal that literally rocked the city. "Come walk with me..."
Part 1: • Exploring Famous Grave...
Part 2: • Exploring Angelus-Rose...

I was born and raised on Catalina Street where the Rosedale Crematorium is. Our parents would walk with us around Rosedale after dinner on Sundays. It was quiet walking through there in the 50s and 60s. We would play a game of who could find the oldest person. It was a peaceful time!

Dear Matt, I enjoy your videos very much. Your voice-overs pull me into the story and open up history to me and entertain me at the same time. It just may be possible that my blood pressure lowers as I walk with you through the lives of people who are at rest now but you are keeping their memories alive. I am very glad you had this material leftover and you shared it with us. Thanks!

Excellent job my friend! I have seen The Wedding Crashers but not the other movies. I know that took a lot of work to find where that was at and match up. I really enjoyed the story/stories on Kafitz. Very strange, creepy and tragic. I have always said you're the best cemetery channel out there! I'm looking forward to what you have in store. I love old western history so I'm really excited about that. It's funny you mentioned how the stories find you. I have that happen a lot. For some reason certain markers catch my eye and lead me their way. Then I get curious who is there. Sometimes the marker leads me there but I find someone next to them that is interesting. It's almost like there saying come here let me introduce you to who is sitting right next to me.

I know exactly what you mean when about getting that feeling of being guided by an invisible hand out there. I'm not sure what it is, but those instances make me want to keep going back out there. Thanks as always for your friendship and also for the hard work and dedication you put into your own videos, which are quite simply fantastic and are among the best on KZbin! Take care and best wishes to you and your family 😊

What started with a graveyard Hollywood video overlay of Rat Pack movies, etc.. And don't get me wrong, Matt. That in itself was fantastic! How you molded in the story of family Kafitz has got to be the most riveting true account of 100 yrs gone dead people that I can imagine just now. People then are not all too different than people now. Just like that "once upon a time", my very late great grandmother was once a single young hot chick full of life. Thank You. The idea of death brings perspective. When you hit the upload button on this one, I'll bet you a shiney nickel that you were proud of it. Thanks again.

Getting to know those who have come before us is a very enlightening experience. Learning from history is a great thing, but there is something so poignant and important about learning from individuals' histories. Becoming close to those long gone truly makes it so they're never forgotten. And you sharing these stories with others broadens that remembrance of them. On this video alone, you have shared with 27,000 others who will carry on their memory. Same goes with doing your own genealogy as well. I bet you'd be really into that, if you haven't been doing so already. Kudos, my friend!!!

Thank you, Renee, your kind words mean a lot 😊 I thought a lot about the William Kafitz endured. There was a quote in a newspaper by Maude saying that he went to Rosedale every day to visit his family. When I mapped out the locations of where he lived and saw that he was always within walking distance, it really made the story more personal, especially to know that I was standing where he stood. I truly hope he and his family have found peace.

Excellent, simply excellent.I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Your work, in its depth, pacing and poignancy, rivals that of Ken Burns. Grave Explorations, if you’re ever able to make it to Charleston, be sure to look up Magnolia Cemetery...it has some of the most interesting funerary art...so peaceful. You’ll find graves of authors, politicians, civil war veterans, everyday people, and I’ve heard there was even a “Madam” buried there. I found a stone for a dog that had been found there & ended up being the Cemetery’s mascot. I really hope you’re able to visit there one day. You would absolutely love it!!!

I love walking through the old cemeteries. The monuments are works of art. Many tell the town's and countries if birth and places of death and some list family as well as well as reflecting the lives of those that lie beneath them. And though busy streets surround some I find a sense and feeling of peace in side them.

Excellent videos, narration and calming of your voice. How do I donate to your cause? Thank you so much. Your Loma Vista Memorial Park really hit home. I grew up. In Fullerton and my father was laid to rest at LVMP.

Do you ever see yourself going to Europe? England, France, although I'm not a fan of France or it's history. Lot's of old places in Europe. Thank you for another excellent video.

A lot of those interred were Masons and the original builders of L.A. It might be interesting to do a video of that. I really enjoyed this one. Good film-making .
