Rubick, the Grand Magus
Any mage can cast a spell or two, and a few may even study long enough to become a wizard, but only the most talented are allowed to be recognized as a Magus. Yet as with any sorcerer’s circle, a sense of community has never guaranteed competitive courtesy.
Already a renowned duelist and scholar of the grander world of sorcery, it had never occurred to Rubick that he might perhaps be Magus material until he was in the midst of his seventh assassination attempt. As he casually tossed the twelfth of a string of would-be killers from a high balcony, it dawned on him how utterly unimaginative the attempts on his life had become. Where once the interruption of a fingersnap or firehand might have put a cheerful spring in his step, it had all become so very predictable. He craved greater competition. Therefore, donning his combat mask, he did what any wizard seeking to ascend the ranks would do: he announced his intention to kill a Magus.
Rubick quickly discovered that to threaten one Magus is to threaten them all, and they fell upon him in force. Each antagonist's spell was an unstoppable torrent of energy, and every attack a calculated killing blow. But very soon something occurred that Rubick's foes found unexpected: their arts appeared to turn against them. Inside the magic maelstrom, Rubick chuckled, subtly reading and replicating the powers of one in order to cast it against another, sowing chaos among those who had allied against him. Accusations of betrayal began to fly, and soon the sorcerers turned one upon another without suspecting who was behind their undoing.
When the battle finally drew to a close, all were singed and frozen, soaked and cut and pierced. More than one lay dead by an ally’s craft. Rubick stood apart, sore but delighted in the week’s festivities. None had the strength to argue when he presented his petition of assumption to the Hidden Council, and the Insubstantial Eleven agreed as one to grant him the title of Grand Magus.

Invoker didn't know just ten spells, he knew hundreds of spells through out thounsands of years of living. But decided to keep only the 10 strongest ones.

"Why doesn't he copy his friend's spells" My theory? That's too boring for him. His whole character motivation is finding something to challenge him, and while learning magic from someone who's willing to teach it to you is trivial, he enjoys the challenge of observing and reverse engineering the spell as an opponent is casting it. Unlike other heroes, he's not motivated by victory, he just wants to not be bored. He even respects his opponents when he's killed by them, he really doesn't care about winning or losing the whole ancient battle, it's just a means to an end with him.

i guess the "obssessive" pudge lines are just there for rubick because they were the ones battling at the finals of arcana vote. it was actually cool but they didn't went on doing it with the arcana who won afterwards. EDIT: xD surprised at the last part

the arcana afterwards was rubick, and the voice actor died, thats why rubick has no new lines.

@@diegosaavedra3267 yes, while its true that the original voice actor of rubick died, some arcanas like jugg (equippable voice) had a different voice actor from the original one. so it could possibly be that they can hire a new actor to record new responses specific for rubick arcana to add lore or references but they chose not to go with that direction. for what reason? no one knows for sure. but it's only minimal and not really that large issue.

8213 Collections i remember why. They did not want to disrepect the voice actor. Rubick voice is so unique , changing his voice would have changes too much the character. They could certainly add voices later on .

I'm a Rubick player, and dare I say your assessment is... Hauntingly accurate. Rubick's low HP pool yet fun ultimate ability makes him the perfect character to get random spikes in power but die consistently. He has to get in relatively close to be able to manipulate the battle and steal spells, but he drops like a fly himself. Still love him though, Spell Steal is simply too fun to pass up.

Rubick is the best hero in the game. I used to play rubick when I played Dota 2. You should have played with me (or against me :P). What people NEVER understand is that there are two ways of playing rubick: 1. You're there to buy wards and use stun and fade bolt 2. You own this shit. To really play this hero to his max potential, you need extreme amounts of skill. It's harder than invoker. Rubick requires improvising, positioning, timing, foresight and wisdom. What not to do is as important as what to do. 'Spell steal' is one of these 'game changing ultimates'. It can win a losing game if used properly. Sorry your experience with this hero has been this bad.

to know how to use spell steal to it full potential not only need to know timing to steal it...but know how to use all this skill...I still remember use him early time and when steal the spell i read the description first xD

@@mr.nobody896 Totally agree. Although for a beginner it is almost always better to start the game with some spells in your mind and try to focus on them. Once you get good at stealing spells and using them, then you can improvise in teamfights.

Real question is: Who is Aghanims father? Does he have one or is Aghanim a unique entity without gender thus he needed to *create* child for himself?

@@AlexandruG09 If Aghanim has never had people he belongs to but is singular entity, he likely does not have gender as we see. This is mostly additional question on HOW Rubick is related to Aghanim, did Aghanim give biological birth to him or did he have no capacity to do so thus he needed to create child for himself with trial and error, trying and failing before Rubick was born. If so, how many failures there are and are some of them still around? Gender does not matter, unless you try to think how these two are related thus they fall on Rubicks personality. If Rubick was created, then how he sees this? Does he know he was created and if so, does he feel like tool for Aghanim or is he his own person? How he is to feel that creating life is less valuable to Aghanim than creating a (true Aghanims) staff if Aghanim sees his staff being his greatest creation? Having biological birth would mean Rubick seeks to be as good or better than his father, mirroring how we seek approval sometimes when our parents excel at something, more than most others. However if Rubick is creation, then has Aghanim planted these goals in him, is Rubick just a puppet that does what he was ordered to do?

every thing is not lore related necessarily. pudge arcana has lots of voice lines speaking to rubick because they both were final candidates for getting arcana. "Thought you was gonna steal me hooks, did ya?" is obvious enough.

Rubick probly dont copy allies' spells cuz it would be too easy and boring. Maybe he only find pleasure in copying enemies' spells in the heat of the moment cuz its harder to do, rewarding himself with adrenaline n satisfaction when succeeding . See his trembling hand, like us getting rdy for the perfect echo slam n black hole, hes always getting rdy to single handedly copy enemies spells and lashing them back to enemies, relishing at the enemies confusion
