Naval aviation is no joke. I’ve always said navy pilots are better because they can fly any mission that Air Force pilots can fly, but afterwards the Air Force pilots get to land oh so softly on a 12,000’ runway. The navy pilot has to land on a pitching, swaying chunk of steel floating in the ocean, sometimes at night, sometimes in bad weather, and with no alternate landing sites available, because they’re hundreds of miles at sea.

It’s funny but my dad could always tell if the pilot of a commercial airplane was a former navy pilot because when a navy pilot sets down there’s very little finesse or art to it. He just set you down with a thump, not unlike landing on an aircraft carrier.
