This is one of those shows that is so stupid it’s admirable. It’s the kind of stupid that hooks you in and you can’t look away because it’s so beautifully and amazingly stupid. For so long cartoons have been expected to have some kind of moral or lesson to learn. This breaks away from all that and is just a beautifully animated load of golden shit and I love it

Another banger of a Canadian toon that had major star power... Michael Cera and Kathy Najiny in the pilot (back when the both were Fox TV regulars in America)... Skye Sweetnam singing the theme music (Capitol Records was her label, alongside the late Tina Turner, etc.) Mercury Filmworks with Season 1/2 animation help.... The LA Studio with post production assistance (just like Futurama) and it's presented in Dolby Surround sound where available... Plus, Nelvana and CBS (owners of Nick) provided a massive deal to distribute this Teletoon original to so many others overseas, including the UK, South Korea and Italy. Plus, with that deal, CBS's parents at Paramount would release Season 1 and the pilot on DVD. (Pilot is in Letterbox and in DOLBY SURROUND... most 2000s cartoons didn't get that treatment.) That show didn't deserve the criticism of all of the old book loving critics and the unfair curse word filled rants of early message board users. Wayside is proud to be a cartoon... it looks like one, sounds like one, the theme is a banger when I watched it on DVD during lockdown in Salem, NJ... and well, It's bloody perfect. (OK, Season 2 needed smooth Flash stuff, like Detentionaire. Or keep the quirky OK K.O! Esque Pilot/Season 1 look.) I can talk for ages about it, (and trust me, I didn't "Kill a man" as Maurecia once asked.) So I have to wrap it up. But hey, I'm happy that you got to do that cartoon. The tooniest of Canadian cartoons... WAYSIDE!

Sadly I don't see a demographic for this. Its clearly not for kids, but its looks to kiddie-style to be taken as an adult cartoon. The jokes are funny, but they still resemble youthful, slapstick-like humor that's popular in kids cartoons and thus adults would probably not find this show mature enough to entertain them, yet too mature for younger audiences. The mood and attitudes of the characters are just too childish for my taste, and I doubt adults would take the time to appreciate this kind of humor. Teens could like this, however only for a short time. It resembles the kind of show that they would grow out of eventually. I like its art style and its a beautiful animation, truly, this level of quality would be exceptional if they could maintain it budget wise on a televised cartoon, but sadly the animation was the only thing that really held my interest.
@qnaman5 жыл бұрын
rick and morty has same vidbe. And it was succesfull. Just cartoon for teenagers.
4 жыл бұрын
that's what's killing creativity in animation's comedy and comedy shows in general nowadays. everything now is too dialogue-driven because people judge slapstick and visual humor as a ""kid's thing"". that's sad and ridiculous, and limits things too much. as far as i know, slapstick is an universal humor and used to present in a lot of content for adults.
@KellySmith5554 жыл бұрын
@ Slapstick is about the same as poop jokes and sex jokes...universal, yes, but not at all entertaining.
4 жыл бұрын
@@KellySmith555 yet that's what every "adult show" offers in comedy lol rick and morty, family guy and its derivatives, south park, bojack horseman. poop sex jokes xd not childish at all. now slapstick that is a versatile form of comedy that can be way more creative than the recycled poop sex jokes, it's deemed childish. i will never get this generation lol. i see that the problem here isn't really slapstick itself but the problem is people's prejudice of it
@KellySmith5554 жыл бұрын
@ There's no prejudice, something that isn't funny, simply isn't funny. Rick and Morty offers a lot more than sex jokes and poop jokes, so I'm mostly certain you've never watched it. Family guy offers a great deal of referential humor, and I don't watch Bojack horseman, but I heard its was a dark comedy, full of depression. South park on the other hand IS slapstick mixed with sex and poop and is, by far, the most immature and unfunny of those you've listed. Slapstick humor is immature because it has no intellectual substance. You don't need to know anything about the world in order to enjoy it. Violence and body humor is simple enough any child can comprehend it, but humor that requires subtlety, comprehension, and prior knowledge about the world, current events, science or just regular life is what the majority of adult cartoons use for humor, and its more effective, more creative, and more entertaining than hitting someone on the head with a stick, like slapstick humor is limited to. Your sense of humor is underdeveloped, that's the only problem. For example, if you want a show that utilizes intellectual humor AND slapstick effectively, creatively and without relying upon adult themes, I'd recommend The Amazing World of Gumball. If you are looking for slapstick alone, Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry, and some early Disney Cartoons manage this beautifully, but this type of humor has its limits like any joke, and most will grow out it, or only accept it in small doses spaced apart by a breadth of time, which is why people require diversity in their comedy to achieve something worth watching regularly.
