Only his entire existence. The Emporer saved his life and gave him purpose. He was made for war. The nails worked when he was at war. He had decades of fight still in him. Maybe he should have focused on that I stead of bitching about dieing. Before you start crying about pain, Angron is a demi god of war, not an animal with cancer. He was made to fight and was allowed to do so. His weakness was his emotions.

And he was a truly a bad dad and a worse son, the traitors seemed to have a common issue of letting the things that happen to them be used as a crutch for their own personal moral failings. No matter of the emperor was just or not, each traitor made the choice to bring more pain and suffering into the galaxy rather than subtract it. Some people experience trauma and then think that it’s ok to spread that trauma onto others while others use that trauma as motivation to break the cycle and prevent others from experiencing the same hardship.

@RomanvonUngernSternbergnrmfvus They are the grandest of hypocracies. They trade one master for another. It's exactly as Angron says, "You have freedom because your will aligns with the emperors will" Does angron's will not match now with khornes. To grind against the machine of war. Blood for the blood god as they say now his violence is that, violence. At least he had focus a real purpose under the emperor. As flaud as he is the emperor had a goal for all humanity. The chaos gods simply want to eat.

The Khan felt almost exactly the same way, understanding that compliance or death were the only two choices. He saw the emperor as a tyrant for that, (but maybe a necessary evil to unite humanity against xenos and chaos? I'm not 100,% sure).

@@RomanvonUngernSternbergnrmfvus i think angron truly had no choice in his ultimate destiny. He couldn't be better, because he never knew better. And due to the butcher's nails, he COULDN'T want better. To be enslaved since your earliest days, forced only to fight and kill. Forced to take the butcher's nails, to kill his father figure, to abandon his gladiators, to subjugate innocents in the great crusade, to become a daemon prince. The only pleasure he experiences is during indiscriminate slaughter. And the rest of the time he's in excruciating pain. He had no choice. Angron did nothing wrong.

I'm glad to see that there is someone doing impressions. I don't feel as alone, or weird for wanting to bring a character to life in such a way. The performance wasn't bad by any means, and I am fully aware that nerves would play a part in it. But I would love to see the characters fully inhabited. Their emotions, goals, and beliefs felt in the performance. Angrons tortured humanity, lorgars passionate zeal. Both would be an inspirational challenge to act.

It was this exchange that brought Angron into my favourites. Favourite traitor and second overall. I love how he’s saying “If I were a better man, I wouldn’t be your ally. Becuase I am a blood-crazed madman with agonising nails in my head I am loyal, because I am damaged beyond repair to the point I can only feel joy in slaughter I can stomach fighting this cause.” He’s not a victim anymore, he’s a monster. But at least he wears his face honestly because he is the only one to have felt the receiving end of the Emperor’s ambitions. There’s another quote when he’s talking to Khârn, he touches on the cycle of empires, built on the bones of the ones that came before and will never last. None of them did, neither will this one. The Emperor isn’t special for making this Imperium, he is not more just a conqueror than any other conqueror in history, and Angron won’t stand for the facade.

This one makes even more sense when you realize that before the nails Angrons Primarch specialty was empathy, before the nails turned him into a raging murderous psychopath of course, he was meant to be kind. Even through the haze of the nails he could see what they were doing was no different than what was done to him, even drowning in pain and rage he could see the hypocrisy of what Great Crusade was. More than any Primarch Angrons rebellion was assured, whether by the madness of the nails or the softness of his heart, he always had an expiration date once the crusade was over.

For an apparently insane Primarch he speaks some truth. After all, the Emperor barely won the wars of unification, he wasnt really that different from other barbarians warlords, but he had some technology and charisma on his side. He isnt any different than the cultures he destroyed, he only had more tools at his disposal to spread his beliefs and culture and make them "truthful"

Say what you will about Angron but the man sees a truth most do not. He is a savage and a monster but he understands war in a way few do. He has a lot of experience with after all. A connoisseur of violence. And he recognizes the simple truth: the Imperium is built on bloodshed. The Emperor, Malcador, and the Primarchs might dress it up with flowery language and high ideals but in the end, they all hold true to the ideals of Khorne: “I rule because I have the strength to take it”. When it all boils down to “The strong may rule”, you might as well follow the God of Strength. Blood for the Blood God.

You know Angron was actually one of the most loyal Primarchs just not to the Emperor. He was loyal to his gladiator family yo the point he was happy yo face death with them. In the stories after they broke free of the high riders and were on the run Angron would go without food for days while blending himself to feed to his gladiator family. He would also use his prinarch ability to take all they're pains away as they slept and heap them onto himself so they could know a sliver of peace. I frankly dont vlame him for being so angry with the emperor and his views hold a lot of merit. Perhyif the emperor had helped Angron and his family instead of just teleporting him away against his will things would have been different. Really think about it. If you were with the people you love most in the world and some strange golden man says come with me leave these slaves to they're death. How would you react. Then think about being forcefully wisked away even after you had refused to go. Youd probably hate this gilden man and everything he stood for. The butchers nails hurt and almost killed Angron but the emperor's actions are what really broke him. Till then he fought against the nails but when everything he cared about was taken from him without even a reason given he stopped fighting the nails because he felt he had bo reason to anymore. The real Angron died when the Emperor took him from his family. Everything else was just a rage fueled monster that killed because it was all it had left.

For some reason I spent the last couple of hours crafting an alternate universe Heresy where everyone's positions were switched. Thee Loyalist Primarchs turned bad, the Traitor Primarchs turned good etc. In this alternate universe, the Emperor helps Angron liberate his friends and world and Angron and his legion become some of thr most stalwart and dependable warriors in the entire Crusade. Despite the pain of the Butcher' s Nails Angron becomes the equivalent of Vulkan. He makes an effort to look after the common citizens of the Imperium because he knows the pain of being trodden on by the powerful and doesn't want ANYONE to go through what he went through. And for anyone curious: my boy Vulkan becomes an unwilling servant of Nurgle after a Dark Eldar virus infects his legion and Leman Russ becomes a champion of Khorne after the Burning of Fenris, which happens after Guilliman tricks Magnus and the Thousand Sons into attacking Russ and the Wolves.

I don't believe it!! I've never read this book. So it's a shock to see Angron's compassion still shine through.

Angron, the emperor's compassion incarnate, twisted from the destined paladin into the monster of khorne. He rarely is wrong in his thoughts, its a shame that he wasnt allowed to be who he was meant to

Angron was not wrong. There were many worlds that just wanted to be left alone but were given no choice.

Angron was perfect for Khorne not because of his rage and craving for battle, but because he was honest about himself, his emperor and his kin. Khorne may crave skulls and blood, but he also values honor and truth.

Incorrect Angron was perfect for the emperor. He just couldn't see that. ANGRON was supposed to be the paladin and a healer. 😅 Not the blood curtailing blood blessed butcher that he is today. We lost one.The greatest Primarchs the primarch of hope and mercy. Not to any chaos god, not to the emperor but the vileness of what humanity is. ANGRON tried to do the right thing every time. But he still failed Angron really did try to be good.He truly did, but all he could see was the injustice in this world. 😢

Your skillful voice acting has been a true joy to watch... You have shown me a wonderful side of 40K I never knew existed! And the sheer range and skill of your voice has succeeded in making Angron my new favorite primarch!

honestly Angron was the most moral of the primarchs (outside of MAYBE Vulcan). Suffering makes you pity suffering, even if you cause it. Khorne took Angron's hatred for things not being right, and turned him to what he is now. A real tragic character.

What you describe is EXACTLY Sanguinius. Which is why Khorne wanted the Blood Angels, but settled for the World Eaters.

I love how all the fallen primarch have such hard hitting lines that sound great untill you really think about who they were as people and what all they did and realis they are either hypocrits, liers, or high on copium.

So are the loyalists. See: corax huffing copium at the sight of the world eaters actually fighting against tirany (in service of a worse cause, granted).

I would give any amount of money to hear your rendition of Angron's speech on Desh'elika Ridge, in the graveyard of his army he was taken from. (pgs 306-311 of Betrayer). Excellent work as always.
