Be careful in simply holding your paperwork up to the glass. Some States may require you to hand the officers your paperwork. However most States do not require the Driver to surrender his papers to an officer, but simply to present or display them upon demand. You do this by displaying through the glass. They can see all the information they need to.

How can a police officer not understand what a temporary ID is? They are usually just pieces of paper (no photo) good for a certain amount of time until you can get a replacement photo ID. They aren't that uncommon for an officer to be utterly confused when seeing one.

Josh, I'm not sure what you think of drugs or what your history with them is, but I have a history I don't mind sharing for the purposes of the following comment. Walking down the street in Sacramento, Ca, I had Batman and Robin (2 cops unaffectionately known as...) pulled up and asked me a question related to some lady getting killed in the area. Shrugging, haven't heard about it. Over the next couple minutes, they turned their unmarked unit (obviously when you see the grill where whatever equipment that's there it is a cop car) they get out and talk their way into searching me. They discovered several 8-balls in my Sucrets tin in my, yes, fanny pack (I wore it on my side to prove... It wasn't a FANNY pack. They put me in cuffs in the back of the unit and they popped the trunk. From the back seat you've only got that line to look through, the crack you can kinda get the gist of what's going on. I think they were testing my chit. I heard a "Whoa!" Next thing, trunk closes, one opens "my" door, step out, look away, takes the cuffs off, kicks me in the ass and says GTFO of here and don't look back. They stole almost a zip of badass biker chit! I was robbed by cops for dope. Insane! I ran it all down to my dude and he gave me another, said don't trip bean dip, no charge. What a freaking day in the life of a regular guy.

If your car is registered in your name and the license plate is in your name the moment they pull up on you they run your license plate. They have all the information they need. They have your photos they have your address. They have your Social Security number they have your Telephone number because you have to give all of that information at the DMV in order to get an ID or a license. That’s the way it is in Texas anyway I don’t know if it’s that way another states but they have all of your information that is pulled up and they have looked at it and they know who you are where you live your age everything about you before they come up to your vehicle yet they demand an ID even when it is an illegal detainment and illegal stop and then they will escalate it and people end up getting killed because they escalate to that many times Over a traffic stop and legal traffic stop it’s disgusting and stop law-enforcement needs to be held personally liable when they violate your rights or they commit felonies and they need to be punished the law just like we are. That means that if they get guilty of felony, there should also be a gun enhancement because we have a gun and commit a crime they give us a gun enhancementfelony committed possession of a weapon. We know that law-enforcement agents have weapons they have their service gun. They have tasers they have batons and they will use them and they are illegally detain and illegally arresting and illegally committing excessive force against the person they should be held liable personally.
