That is normal daily maintenance 👍 that system needs to be unclogged and properly flowing to prevent land erosion she doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and it looks like they never do maintenance there, you did a good thing helping out fox 👍 just don’t go to that area anymore they don’t deserve your hard work 👍❤️

The only way to shut those kind of people up is to have signed printed landowner permission to do the removals. With that in hand you can tell them if they dont stop interrupting your work you will have the police come out.

It might be better to communicate with the people responsible for the conservation before taking any action. That can prevent a lot of misunderstandings and trouble.

To communicate with these people would require them sending people out to inspect the problem then have meetings to discuss the problem. In the mean time more flooding and erosion. Great job Fox, keep up the good work. Blessings from Canada 🙏❤

There is one in every crowd. I have no patience with these privileged idiots. I sort of wondered if you ever ran into one of these do gooders. It’s like the guy on Kenoslovas who gets people complaining he’s damaging eco systems and endangering animals. Maybe they need to read a book now and then. You guy are doing good work. Keep it up. 🇨🇦

Did that suck. Would have been cool to see that all cleaned out. I would find out who’s in charge of that & see if they mind you going to do that free maintenance for them. If she shows up again tell Karen to go play in her sandbox all by herself.

The dam still needs to be unclogged so if you need to speak to someone go ahead and do so because I'm sure that everyone commenting wants to see you finish the job. That's a whole bunch of water being held back and it would be interesting to see how much you can reduce the water level. Tell Karen that your channel is getting folks interested in conservation and instead of being an ass she should appreciate you bringing attention to the problem. Plus, I think that they might be receiving public funding and may get some donations and contributions out of the deal.

Whatever entity that constructed that drainage system did so with DNR approval and with oversight in both the design and construction process. They put a lot of thought and work into the debris guards protecting the drainage system because they wanted it to work. You were just doing the routine maintenance that is required to keep the area functioning as designed that Karen's group is apparently neglecting. She probably gets paid or her group receives funding for maintaining the area and she's mad you documented her not doing her job. I would contact the DNR to see who's responsible for that area's maintenence. If it's her, they need to find somebody better.

Was she acting in an official capacity? Was she a paid employee? Or a volunteer? Or simply a member of the general public? In any case, getting permission from the entity that oversees this conservation area would probably be a good idea. I hope you do that and go back and finish clearing those drains. People could use some education… the woman on the video needs clarity and the land could benefit from your efforts.

Beavers are widely considered to be ‘ecosystem engineers’, which means they have a large impact on habitats and species through the alterations they make to the physical environment. Beavers can provide a range of ecosystem services. These include ‘provisioning ecosystem services’ such as increased ground water storage, ‘regulation and maintenance ecosystem services’ such as flow stabilisation and flood prevention, and ‘cultural ecosystem services’ that relate to people’s recreational, educational and spiritual interactions with the environment. They can act as agents of natural change and restoration. These all contribute to human wellbeing and have socio-economic impacts. Experience from Scotland and abroad has demonstrated that, overall, beavers have a very positive influence on biodiversity. Their ability to modify the environment means that beavers not only create new habitats but also increase habitat diversity at the catchment scale. Their impacts are dynamic and change across space and time. The mechanisms by which beavers change environments and affect biodiversity include creating ponds and wetlands, altering sediment transport processes, importing woody debris into aquatic environments, creating important habitat features such as standing dead wood, creating coppiced stands and unique vegetation structures, and creating successional stages such as beaver meadows. Beaver dams will impede the flow (quantity and velocity) of water in a channel. Beaver dams therefore increase the in-channel storage of water. By increasing the amount of water stored in a channel or on a floodplain the effects of prolonged periods of dry weather may be lessened. By slowing flow, and therefore reducing the speed at which intercepted precipitation passes through a catchment, beaver dams can increase the length of time taken for a flood to reach its peak and reduce the height of the peak. The dissipation of energy associated with flows slowed by beaver activity will result in increased channel stability i.e. less erosion and deposition and therefore less lateral and vertical movement of the channel. Beaver activity may therefore result in the development of natural flood defences. Beaver ponds also trap sediment acting as a filter and improving water quality. Just Saying Maybe Karen is right on this Occasion!

That depends entirely on what the conservation area was supposed to be conserving. Areas left specifically to beavers are usually marked by signage so that people don't rip out their dams by accident. It's more likely that Karen was the one in the wrong - and even if she wasn't, the way she went about it certainly wasn't what I would call appropriate to explain it. Also beavers do not "act as agents of natural change and restoration" in general, that is a POSSIBLE side effect of their actions only. Generally speaking they create dams in drainage channels for farming fields and other places where the flooding will wash out roads progressively causing massively maintenance demands. It's fine when they are doing it well beyond the realms of common human habitation and farming, but everywhere else they are just pests simply damming up water to avoid predators, to say nothing of shredding local tree vegetation. Sure they create wetlands, but in so doing they destroy arboreal regions in the process.

The important word in this long screed is "overall". Underneath this sweeping assumption is the fact that in smaller, local areas they can be and are destructive. Destroying local important habitats and bio diversity. Now it's pretty obvious in this video that whoever created this particular conservation area, (and probably at considerable cost), want those drains to work. Nobody would go to that much trouble building those structures if the long term aim was just to flood the whole area by allowing the drains to block. From Scotland? Oh purleese. They have a few beavers and have already had to relocate some because they caused problems. It's just the latest obsession, the latest fashion. And never underestimate the opportunity for virtue signaling for conservation brownie points and, most important, funding. Just read the report to the government, estimated cost £850,000 at the beginning of the trial, actual cost at the end £2 million.
