Angry River story has been written by Ruskin Bond and the illustrations are done by Archana Sreenivasan. The story is about a little, brave girl, Sita who lives with her grandparents on a little island. The island has a huge, strong Peepul tree. One day Sita's grandfather takes Grandmother to Shahganj hospital for treatment. Sita is alone on the island. It starts raining heavily. The water in the river starts rising unusually. The strong winds and thunder frighten Sita. The water reaches her hut and she runs to the Peepul tree and climbs on it settling into its strong branches. The tree groans. It seems to be readying to join the angry river. Sita holds on to the branches tightly as the tree sways and flows with the current of the river. Shortly Sita hears someone calling out; She looks to see an approaching boat with a boy in it. The boy extends his hand for her to hold. Sita grasps it and manages to jump into the boat. The boy keeps rowing the boat on the river and the next morning drops her at a village seen at a distance. Sita travels on a bullock cart to reach Shahganj She is anxious about her grandparents. She finds her grandfather there and gets to know that her grandmother is no more. Sita returns to the island with her grandfather. Grandfather can't believe his eyes to see the old, mighty Peepul tree disappeared. He starts building a mud hut for themselves again. A vegetable patch is grown. Sita plants a mango seed with the hope of a mango laden tree in some years. One day Sita finds the boy, who had saved her in his boat, whose name is Krishan, visit her on the island. They are friends. Both of them sit by the river and speak of it as an integral part of their lives. The story is about the angry river and the courageous little girl Sita.
