I have no idea why this popped up in my suggestions however now I am intrigued. Got a bunch of questions! 1. These american Volvo trucks look really different than the ones in here in Sweden. Is that a conscious design choice to make them look like the Mac trucks? 2. Is this only your truck or is it shared among your colleagues? 3. How much time do you spend on the road? 4. Restroom situation? Truckstops or is there a second little cubby you didn't show us? 5. How often during your travels do you check in to a hotel? 6. Whats the com radio for? 7. Any other way to prepair food on board? 8. Is there a 110V / 240V outlet that you can use to power other stuff? Super interesting show and tell anyway. Thanks for any and all replies.
@blondgingerbeard39525 жыл бұрын
The answer to 4. pee bottle. If it's a number 2, pray you make it to a large parking lot like a Walmart, rest area or truck stop.
@jdrancho18645 жыл бұрын
Nice of you to take an interest. Allow me a crack at answering your questions in order based on my experience. 1. I think the Volvo truck design is a function of the NA trucking environment and evolved organically over the years. Volvo entered the US market in the Eighties long before buying Mack trucks. The integral tall sleeper design was a radical game changer compared to the 2-piece cab and bunk design that was the standard at the time. Some brands - like Peterbilt - didn't offer an integral option until much later, but it is now the accepted choice among manufacturers and fleets. 2. I believe Chris owns this truck and is under contract with a trucking company. He doesn't share his favorite toy. 3.Time on the road varies with the segment of the trucking industry and the region of the country you work in. By that I mean that if your loads keep you in a balanced out-and-back lane, you spend maybe a couple of days or a week on the road. Household goods movers, on the other hand, ofter spend weeks and months criss-crossing the country. That's why they are the ones with the long-wheelbase trucks that have all the comforts of home. Out west, distances between cities are greater, so any trip involves more miles. The eastern half of the US is more compact (comparatively speaking), so the trips are generally shorter and you have a better chance at stopping at the house more often. 4.Unless you have a large, fully equipped cab/sleeper as mentioned above, with onboard water tanks, you need to do some planning as far as personal needs and hygiene goes. First choice would be a nice, well-kept truck stop, followed by a highway rest area - which greatly vary in number and level of acceptability from state to state- , and, as a last resort. yes, an empty Gatorade bottle with a cap that seals tightly. 5.The reason for a nice big cab is so you don't have to stay in an hotel and still be comfortable. I've stayed in hotels when I wasn't feeling well and needed to shake a bug (flu or a touch of Montezuma's revenge). 6.Don't know. If you are talking about a CB (citizens band) radio, it's simply a waste of money. If you are talking about a Qualcomm, it's a text-based way to communicate with dispatch via satellite. 7.Aside from a microwave, there's still the old-timey, traditional way of trucker cooking. You wrap your food in foil, wedge it in next to the exhaust manifold, and drive about hundred miles. Most cuts of meat should be good and ready by then. Adjust your miles depending on whether you like your meat rare or well-done. 8.While far from being universal, a lot of trucks today have auxiliary power units (APU). Basically a small engine located behind the cab that can provide heat, A/C and power (12 Volt or 110 volt with an inverter) to the cab while parked, while also keeping the fuel from gelling and engine fluids at operating temperatures. Since many jurisdictions don't allow idling the truck's engine for more than a couple of minutes, APUs have become more frequent. Hope this was useful and provided an increased understanding to your questions.

Interior wise, the euro versions are better, but space wise this is far better. You can buy bullnose units, but not many companies run them due to vehicle dimension restrictions we have here. I think the last official ones were Scania T cabs which haven't been factory produced since the early 2000's. Nice truck all the same.

I had a 1978 N10 for a couple of years and it had nothing .... although it did have little curtains over the back window so maybe thats something.

I didn't see Knight transport trucks until I moved down to VA. I would see them all the time. But now after I moved back home(native of RI) I see them once in a while coming home from work.

How many hours are DRIVERS allowed to sleep? Or in other words...... how much down time are they allowed,to have?
@Tater19115 жыл бұрын
Federal laws requires 10 hours of continuous rest after no more than 11 hours of driving in a 14 hour period
@rick198710005 жыл бұрын
Mo Joey I don’t understand the the 14hr period part
@Tater19115 жыл бұрын
@@rick19871000 As soon as you start doing anything with the truck, IE fueling, pre-trip, etc. You have until 14 hours from that point to do whatever you need to do, and in that window you can drive up to 11 hours, with a 30 minute break before your 8th hour of driving.
@Tater19115 жыл бұрын
@@lolfraggles Never heard of that. The qualcomm at my company counts down from 8 hours. Is that a US DOT rule or Canadian TC rule?
@Nookerdog7775 жыл бұрын
you can sleep as much as you want. the law only limits how much youre allowed to drive.

I can tell this guy has passion and he loves what he does and he loves his truck and I realize Volvo is been making trucks for a long time I’m not trying to take that away from them and their trucks are nice and decent but I really just think they don’t get a truckers I don’t know how to say it is not a Peterbilt I can tell you thatWhere is all the gauges and trim rings around them and toggle switches and everything that the whole concept is gone
