I find it hilarious that the film starts with "Every nation on Earth immediately put aside their differences to send their soldiers and civilians to certain death in an unwinnable war against aliens," but then the film ends with "what? The nations of the world couldn't possibly work together to fight an impending alien threat."
@chomp79273 жыл бұрын
its dumb but they explained it a bit because everyone was onboard for a while with the future people giving them weekly intel. Then when the time link was broken because we lost they fell into chaos because at that point everyone knows it's all over, just a matter of time. That would make sense in that moment. Sure eventually the world would nut up and militarize even harder but on that day or two right after news broke it would be madness for a bit. As for not investigating a lead for the guy that brought back the key to humanity, that one was hard to believe. Someone would start barking up that tree somewhere in the coalition, especially since at that time that would be the only shred of intel that breeds hope.
@AverageGamerXP3 жыл бұрын
I think that's a plausible analysis because humanity would 100% band together against a immediate extinction level threat against humanity, but once you say hey we've found thier exact location and we have the advantage. @SP That's kind of how I would re-write the whole time travel thing. This would be a different timeline scenario where they can travel to the past, but the timelines split and whatever happens in the past won't change their future. So the time travelers will come back in time and say... "Guys, listen, in 30 years an alien force will invade Earth. We're loosing the war and need troops. In exchange for you giving us an army, we will give you everything we know about the aliens so that you can better prepare and maybe prevent the invasion."

the problem isn’t that they dont explain these points, its that they contradict them soon after they make them. For example, they say they’re giving them a week to train (for whatever reason), they dont get it because they need help to get these vital assets. Then they introduce this idea that the transfer was messed up and dropped them in the wrong place (because whatever), and introduces their mission that makes or breaks the war, but IMMEDIATELY introduce an airstrike to blow all that vital information away. Forester is introduced as being in command, so then who ordered that airstrike that she cant stop? Why would that airstrike take priority over the war-ending resources? Even how they drafted people, and why people go back and forth are only implied explanations, and are contradicted soon after they explain them.

There were plenty of bad character decisions and cliché plot points, but the logic of the film holds up for the most part. If you think of it as two parallel universes that are trading personnel and resources, there isn’t necessarily a paradox. The only piece that doesn’t work is that the young soldiers that got trapped in the past now will exist in the same universe as themselves as babies. The explanation of the wormholes as evenly spaced rafts on a river was spot on. And even little things make sense, like why Pratt was put in charge right away when he first answered the comm. It was his daughter on the other end, so she already knew about his military experience and leadership qualities. Again, there was plenty of silliness in this film, but I think it was pretty logically consistent for the most part.

Justification to some of the plot points they seem to have missed: 1. About the clothes, the comic relief guy points it out about him not being able to keep his cargo shorts but his graphic tee is fine while the future lady is talking, and he comments about missing what she said since we can't hear her while he is talking. 2. Training, time skips forward a bit after the whole recruitment pitch that shows some gun training. The civilian recruits could have potentially received some training during this. 3. Time paradox, time travel in this movie was never fully explained. It appeared they were only pulling people that died before the invasion to avoid any risk. But the end of the future section shows there are most likely 2 separate timelines. 4. The one thing that was explained about time travel is that due to the way the system works. Time moves forward at the same pace in the future as it does in the past. Hence we they don't send people to the start of the invasion. 5. The alien they fight away from the ship was the queen. The whole reason they had to go through the process of working on the toxin is because they had a toxin before that worked on all of the soldier aliens, but not the queen. Hence why they wanted to use it on her at the end to make sure she died. J.K. Simmons even comments "we should go after it before it lays an egg or something". 6. Blowing the ship, while blowing it up would most likely kill most of the aliens they run the risk of some surviving. So they went in to kill them with the toxin. My issue with this is why didn't they inject the queen, that was bigger and in the center of the room, first.

So people that were supposed to be born that got stuck in the past, so to speak, will affect that part of time in a way that is very likely to mean that they will not be born "again" (so to speak). Even if that were to happen the linear timeline that used to exist has branched off into a new one due to the time machine being used to go back in time and alter shit. This means there's an unaltered timeline where the aliens win and shit ends for human kind, and a new timeline where we win due to us going back in time.

I called every plot point before it happened because it was so predictable but in the end its exactly what I thought a fun Summer action flick that I wouldnt mind watching again if it wasnt 2 1/2 hours long. Its like Transformers in that regard, I got what I wanted but its not good enough to warrant that length
@d4mr3d43 жыл бұрын
ok so you guys make good points. there are a lot of dumb things in the movie, but some things were probs just not explained well enough. Chriss diving into the water to save his daughter, may seem dumb, but what he was doing was attempting to catch her so both of them would be teleported to his timeline. yea that's still dumb, but they were announcing the jump time and he may have been counting and knew hed teleport in a few seconds so he tried to save her. the other thing is how time works. you guys point out that if they kill the aliens in the past the future doesn't happen and they don't get drafted and don't learn about toxin therefore cant kill alians. but this is assuming that the time travel is the back to the future type time travel. wich it isn't. in this movie, you cant change the past, just like the mcu. there are just different timelines and they can travel to and from each. they are not the same timeline at different points, they are 2 different timelines. like 2 dif dimensions at different points in time. the raft on the river (thing as they explained it).

For lack of a better term it is beyond stupid to think the 350 untrained 40 plus year old adults can have any tactical value in a normal war let alone that. There's no training and let's training than any militia unit or stop Gap group of people in war in the last hundred years have gotten. Tactically they have no value yet the second they fall down they act like a cohesive unit? Further the idea that the unit disappeared and they had to drop it in at the last second completely is contrary to the idea of how they poorly describe their version of time travel it doesn't make any sense
@MrTrip6663 жыл бұрын
@@nonebusiness2023 @isaac they don't have to have tactical value, they just need enough time to get the a virus to kill the enemy, simple. They were on borrowed time as it was stated many times, they were supposed to have 7 days training which was stated as they would only do a tour for 168 hours. They were not soldiers sent to fight the enemy but more assistance to download files and recover the viales from the lab. They didn't act like a cohesive unit whatsoever, a couple followed orders and thats it, 3 had dropped before so knew what they were doing. How does it not make sense? Time travel movies tend to explain time differently . Marvel recently made up the idea of a Multiverse explaining time travel in their moves. Usually movies have made the point there is ONE timeline and you can either fix it or not. There is no scientific proof of alternate timelines so don’t get caught up time travel explanations. Interstellar is a recent movie that also uses a non multiverse timeline

Best part is when Chris Pratt says something to the effect of "after I take back this toxin and prevent this future from ever happening, I'm gonna come back and save this future..." Ummmmm... Also, did they explain what happened to the millions of trained soldiers on the planet between the few years where the draft was started and them sending untrained civilians? Also, who honestly believes any animal-like species that is vulnerable to 1. explosions, 2. saws, and 3. guns would be able to kill 99% of humanity??? Also, the first toxin they have works on males, but not the females... so they don't use it??? Even though the vast majority of the aliens are males?

The way Joe explains the movie is just "going and going" reminded me of Two Brothers from Rick and Morty: It's in theaters now! Coming this summer: Two brothers. In a van. And then a meteor hit. And they ran as fast as they could, from giant cat monsters. And then a giant tornado came and that's when things got knocked into 12th gear. A Mexican armada shows up. With weapons made from Two-tomatoes. And you better bet your bottom dollar that these two brothers know how to handle business. In: Alien Invasion Tomato Monster Mexican Armada Brothers, Who Are Just Regular Brothers, Running In a van from an Asteroid and All Sorts of Things THE MOVIE! Hold on, there's more! Old women are coming, and they're also in the movie, and they're gonna come, and cross attack these two brothers. But let's get back to the brothers, because they're- they have a strong bond. You don't want to know about it here, but I'll tell you one thing: The moon it comes crashing into Earth. And what do you do then? It's two brothers and-and th-they're It's called Two brothers. Two brothers! [starts laughing] It's just called Two Brothers.

I enjoyed the movie, although I definitely agree with some of your points. The bombing in Miami Beach was completely pointless, since they needed to get the toxins, and the aliens already took over most of the planet. Personally, I didn't like the malfunction part when they jumped in the future. Most of the people died because they fell from high in the sky. Instead, they should have made the aliens kill them. For the ending, yeah they could have just used C4 to blow up the whole ship. Another option would be when they entered the ship, they step on something that triggers the aliens to wake up.

Even though they were in the past they had no time. Like they explained, time is like a river and while there is a connection to the future, time is moving forward together. A day passing in the past is a day passing in the future. Also, Chris Pratt was made squad leader when he responded that he made it, because Muri, his daughter, made him squad leader. You just didn't realize she was his daughter at the time so it didn't make sense.

It was not surprising to me that they did not want to help him when he returned from the future. Why would anyone in government trust him? No one knows that He is the father of the Colonel from the future. Only He and his daughter know about the success of the serum. There is no other official from the future to confirm his connection with his daughter or that the serum exists and is effective. And then in a situation where all countries have turned to themselves, one should expect to get the resources to go to Russia and blow something up. The film is well written(not best). Maybe Jo could throw everything out of the room, the phone, the Dalton brothers, the girl and stop choking on popcorn, and then watch the movie again.

the daughter didn't know it didn't matter. she was on some zombie stuff like "maybe if I find an antidote" kinda vibe. Chris (Dan) was only going off of that idea, but I'm sure that if they knew about the ship before the toxin was even a thing, blowing up the ship would have been like the very first idea. that's how the world solves all the problems expect when they thing the solution is something else, which in this case was the toxin for the past (present) to use.

The way I remember it, they don't have much time with the time bridge they created. They move in time at the same pace. Basically once they landed the time kept going forward in both present and future. Meaning they still were on borrowed time until the aliens destroy the time machine. Now, why didn't they send researchers, samples and data to give earth 30 years to get ready is a good question.

why don't they sacrifice the future for a new future? That's like getting a second chance, if fail, go back again to another past, and create new future again, infinite 30 years.
