Something about remixing 10 year old memes from across the planet warms my heart. I love all the japanese comments about actually being on nico nico and crying from nostalgia, and the people who are surprised the west even knew about this. Also telling him to post it on actual nico nico LOL

No kidding. I was a bit of a weeb in high school, so hearing these NND remixes again (namely kumikyoku, ryuuseigun, and nanairo) is quite nostalgic for me. Especially given my love of rhythm games like Ouendan back then.

@@bobbycrofts9241 NND is Nico Nico Douga, translates to "Smile Smile Video", and is basically Japanese KZbin. They tend to have their own memes pop up, and these memes get compiled into remixes or musical medleys every now and again by their more musically inclined creators. Each of those things I mentioned in parentheses are some of the earlier ones (Kumikyoku = Medley, Ryuseigun = Shooting Star Gun...?, Nanairo = Rainbow, lit. Seven Colors). (Osu! Tatakae!) Ouendan, meanwhile, was the Japanese equivalent and inspiration for the Western Elite Beat Agents. It actually got two installments in Japan. They were rhythm games utilizing the DS's revolutionary-for-the-time touchscreen to great, if short-lived effect, and they together inspired the freeware rhythm game "osu!"
For those of you who are curious, from what I can tell, many of the comments are talking about how happy they are that westerners know about Nico Nico, and how nostalgic it is for them.

CG114921 One _minor_ complaint with this list: I would say that part represents the Peanut Plains theme better. It’s *in* Gourmet Race, but it’s the main melody in Peanut Plains. Edit: Never mind, it’s the Gourmet Race version, listen to the ending and ignore what I just said
You've outdone yourself Tapper. This is a whole new level of godlikeness... Love all the Touhou parts, especially Native Faith and Marisa Stole the Precious Thing, Cheetahmen caught me off guard god damnit, King Dedede as the Flipper-Flop commander was perfect, ALL MY YES for that Ronald McDonald part, Lucky Star x Cheer Readers is just too good, Megaman parts are epic, and so much more. I just can't describe how much I love this...! And the fact that some of the songs included in the medley were ones you already remixed before made this truly feel like "Remix 10", if you know what I mean. Also this 1:08 👌👌👌👌

Something that will always impress me about rhythm paradise/heaven is it’s accessibility. No single game requires you to be able to actually read any text, you can get it all from audio queues or from visual queues. Even games like the bon ondori (the one game that was about a festival from the original rhythm tengoku AKA rhythm heaven silver) can be played without understanding a bit of Japanese.

It’s The Bon Odori, just for your info, but I agree!

that's what i love about rhythm games in general, music is in literally every culture so anyone can understand "press buttons to match in time with the music" hell, it's even accessible to the blind (with a bit of help)
@IDontReallyWantAYoutubeHandle3 жыл бұрын
Well, I mean, (and i can't remember the name so bear with me here) technically the seal minigame requires you to read text to know how many flipper rolls you need to perform, but that's only if you can't understand the language your game is in, and it's already in numeral form rather than straight text. But other than that, it's pretty damn accessible, I remember hearing a story about how a mother could play it with her blind child

@@notund-a Eh...rhythm games like Rhythm Heaven, which are built on audio cues with visual cues being redundant or nonexistent, yes. But most rhythm games rely primarily on visual cues to tell you what buttons to press and when, and some of those include text.
