How can you even teach physics to kids without demonstrations? It's practically a requirement. I am surprised at how many people think this is above and beyond. My physics teacher put a bed of nails on his body and made one of his students slam a sledgehammer onto a cinderblock held by the device, and had ketchup under his shirt as fake blood to prank us into thinking he was hurt by it. Among other things. The angular momentum experiment in this video is well-known to the point of being common sense; as I recall most classes let the kids try it out themselves.

This is exactly what my physics teacher was like (even appearance wise). He would have a lot of demonstrations like this that were fun and engaging like one time he hooked up a pickle to an electrical unit or something and we could see light inside the pickle as it burned or one time he had us shoot pieces of paper on fire at a cardboard box to teach us one of the lessons. We also did many projects like making a gocart that we would use at the end of the semester to race our classmates down a road on and other fun things like that

Basically, his arm+dumbbell is 1 piece. The centre of mass without a dumbbell would be close to his elbow. With a really heavy dumbbell, the centre of mass would be closer to the dumbbell. The heavier the dumbbell, the bigger the distance from the centre of mass of arm+dumbbell to centre of mass of his body. The bigger the distance, the slower you turn. Imagine an object attached to a thread. You start spinning it. The longer the thread, the bigger the distance from the centre of mass of the object to your hand.
