~Yes on the inside of river bends, on the upstream end of bars for flood float gold. For bigger gold that sinks down deeper in a place with no bedrock then 'clay' is hard pan or false bedrock, or gold gets caught up in 'moss' also. More material processed usually means more gold! ~I have 11 Angus MacKirk sluices, 8 gray ones from Idaho and 3 black ones from British Columbia. The older gray ones (no longer made) are far superior, because the newer black ones have poor mould casting and are very rough. Angus MacKirk usually only has 1 or 2 drop riffles at the beginning and sometimes 1 drop riffle at the very end, all the rest of the riffles in between are called single-ramp or dual-ramp riffles, not drop riffles. The best Angus MacKirk sluices have the Abyss (or AU Trap) "trenches" at the base of every ramp riffle to prevent gold losses from water surging (start, stop), but not all models have this. I have a list of models that have this and the ones that don't. Also I have a plastic Le Trap sluice which is a dual ramp riffle design but no "trenches". I have 2 plastic sluices with "all" drop riffles called the California sluices. My very favorite sluices are the Augus MacKirk with dual-ramp riffles and the Abyss (AU Trap) trenches. I absolutely love these plastic sluices in every way possible, the only disadvantage is that most models do not have stands with legs, but a couple models do.

@@midwestmidasmining Good, Angus MacKirk is the best! They use to sell a couple of them with a frame and legs to work in deeper water.

Very informative, thank you. Im brand new to this and will be hitting the creeks as soon as they thaw. So much to learn, and Im not sure the videos from Cali, Australia, etc would be that helpful for central Iowa. Thanks again

Well explained, mate. Iowa and Saxony are almost the same in terms of gold yield lol. I always set up the Sluice with feeling. I have now learned what is correct. Nicely shown, Matt 🤠👍🇩🇪⚒
