I've been wondering how a rower has been doing so well in R2AK. Now I know. That's such a cool boat. It's the best fusion of kayak-canoe-skull-sailboat I've seen. Very nice. And congrats on your continuing success as you head...North to Alaska!

Beautiful lines, simple clean steering and rigging system, open ocean ability, but best of all the sleeping compartment! At ONLY 180 lbs??!! I've looked at 100's of different designs and I always keep coming back to this one. Now maybe incorporate this design for coastal fishing?

Oh no, now I'll have to build another boat. I really like this concept, it is perfect for me down here in South Australia. Perfect for the Coorong where it gets shallow and I reckon it would be great cruising down the coast as well. I'll have to look into a kit if I can get one here in Oz

Very nice arrangement, incorporating many issues. I love the shape of the hull and to me it seems like a perfect sine curve, truncated a little at the transom, which enables a good balance considering the rower sits a little behind the centre of the boat. Elegant in many ways. Sometimes I wonder if in heavy seas one could incorporate some water ballast to ease the quick action which tires a person in a quick jolting boat. One of the best compromise boats I have seen and the different aspects are of high standards . Congratulations.

Plenty of these have been made in Australia out of surf club rowing boats, trimarans and proas. The first one I saw was over thirty years ago which had sailed 600 miles to the destination where I was at on my yacht. It was very sparsely fitted out and the guy lived on it.

You did good! Both on the boat design and on the video... Bravo! All that it needs is a way to remove that rudder and easily hook on a trolling motor (they make the controls wireless to be located anywhere on some models), and you will have created the perfect one man tiny ocean cruiser. It won't be long before some brave (or foolish) soul circumnavigates the world in this doggone thing. lol

I have some what of the same cable tipe . only mine is forward cantaleever and two rudders. Some may say too complicated, but I haven't had any problems with mine. Simple is all right too , but it is also nice not to have a long tiller in the way

Problem with this design over monohull ,is that there is not advantage. The outriggers needed to compensate for the narrow hull cause a lot of drag. The narrow hull has now less room for camping etc. set up time is a lot longer at a busy boat ramp. It doesn't look fast either. And if you want to put a small motor on, to get you from the boat ramp out to the sailing ground , then it where do you put it conveniently? Transom is the optimal place.

Nice boat. I have had several sailing catamarans, and have one now, as well as half-a-dozen other sailboats from 8 to 33 feet. I also have canoeing merit badge (I really do). No, that is not a row boat, exclusively. That is a boat that can be sailed, or rowed. It is both a rowboat and a sailboat. So get over it and admit that you are a sailor and a rower and a boater. I'd love to sail/row one someday, as I also have the disability of mind that causes otherwise perfectly normal people to sit around dreaming up the perfect boat for, well, you know, messing about in boats. That boat looks pretty sweet. Russ
