For many years I've worked hard on it and dynamics (among other things) is a kind of specialty. Glad you think they're effective here. Thx so much.🙂🥁✨🎶

I received this link from my pal of many years, Fernanado. Neither the title word nor the singers were familiar to me, and my hearing is too impaired for me to catch the lyrics from listening only. My immediate impression was surprise at the use of a bow on cymbals, which I do not recall encountering before, also noted by a previous comment. I did appreciate how the crescendo in the drum line nicely fits with the overall vocal crescendo throughout the original, the accurate rather than showy details of the drum work, and how cool and attractive the drummer's outfit. After looking up the word "anhedonia" and the song lyrics, I had some misgivings about negative feelings of depression and hopelessness, but I am going with the more positive visual and aural impressions I took from just looking and listening. I think the overall effect is more about endurance, than about being overwhelmed. With a hint from Fernando, I also realized that the drum video (as well as audio) is to spme extent an overdub on the original. On the other hand, I am reminded of my father's favorite quote from the vaudeville humor of the 1930's (Great Depression era): "Cheer up, they said, things could be worse. So I cheered up, and sure enough, things got worse." I hope my more positive interpretation fits with Fernando's intent. .
@FernandoMedinaDrummer Жыл бұрын
That joke nails it! 🤣 Yes, your positive interpretation does fit, Ed! I don't wanna get folks down further in the dumps. There's a resilient hopefulness present that I believe was the intent of the original track. Btw, check out the quote from Chelsea herself that I included in my video description. Clarifies her motivation as well. And thx so much for the attentiveness to details. There are a lot! And yes, I dig my outfit too! I need more vests in my wardrobe.

De nada, Monica! And thanks for noticing and appreciating nuances. Euphonic ballads like this one give lots of space and time for expressive nuance. One can (at least try to) be poetic -- even on the drums. 🥁🎶✨

Beauty heals. Ain't that the truth! Thx for that, Nora. Much of the visual beauty I credit to Ariana Saraha who made magic outta my raw vid footage including superimposing some of the original video (extremely "haunting and memorable") over my parts of my footage. Quite a synergy. And what a collab between Chelsea & Emma in this song! Strikes to the core. And yes, that's the plan: to keep going 🙂 🥁🎶✨

Many thx, Elissa! Yeah, the song has got a deep lushness that's a joy to play too (and you can tell, right? 😉) As for the cyms, I'm a Soultone artist (but got a couple Zildjians and a Meinl that are essential). Btw, if ya haven't already, check out the description. Good info and background there.

Hey I'll take all the love I can get from the UK! A few others from across the pond have chimed in here too, for which I'm grateful 😊 It really warms my heart to read this. Thank you! Oh yeah, lots of emotions. That's what great music does, right? (Thank you, Chelsea & Emma!) Luckily I have seen, on very rare occasion, people bow cyms, and this incredible song gave me space to try that out and other musical ideas.. 🙂🥁🎶

Incredible original song for you to add your harmonic finessing to. As a percussionist and acoustic alchemist, your playing took me on a walkabout within. Had to watch several times and then just close my eyes and be taken by the haunting melodies and accents you added to it. As you know, I thrive on depth, intensity and ways to be in the world with it all.
