Best I can tell, it was a 1999 tour that Maceo guested on. The version I have on my harddrive is clearer and has an intro by Ani on it bringing Maceo to the stage. Same era when Maceo, Ani, and Prince all guested on each other's albums and toured with each other.

Also, in the version I have, it's likely a Minneapolis date, and on the encore. She describes it as being written by "A local fella, a very purple man."

It came from an earlier Prince album. Dirty Mind album. Released in 1980. Written by Prince, of course.

jonceramic - I recently watched a video of Ani telling the story of when she first met Prince, which was after one of her MN shows in 1999 or 2000. Maceo was touring with her at the time. Prince pulled up in his Limo and asked her to meet him at PP to record something. She cancelled her plans to leave MN that day in order to go to PP. This is a beautiful rendition of his song. First time hearing her play it.
