My Fjord/Belgian wants to be unhaltered and completely at liberty in a 20 acre unfenced field. There's a busy road on the other side of one neighbour's land... at the back there's a nasty neighbour... My horse says, "Do you trust me?" And so we head off... we have 2 ponies and they are free ranging on our property - it is 2 x 3 kilometres an only a fence towards the road down to the village.. the rest i totally open and they can go here they want- huge place in the Norweigan mountains. They NEVER leave the property.. we leave them out all day in nov - march but in a stable at night - but the rest of the year they are left out all the time. Often they come to the farm and sleep on the lawn. It is a wonderful connection

That's amazing - even in the summer, when there's lots to forage, they don't leave your property? Are they older ponies? I think this herd is so energetic and adventurous, because they are so young. The 3 lads also have very strong, bold personalities.

@@ListenToYourHorse There are some natural barriers so we might be lucky but what make me wonder is why they do not go over the creek - it i 20 cm deep and VERY narrow .. it was even almost empty for water last summer.. still they did not go..They can walk trough the valley and get to super grass fields down by the fjord if they just walk 10 minutes on deer track but nope - they stay around the lake all the time and on the top of the mountain where there are a old timber stable. They go in there if the weather is bad - or they come home.. :) The ones e have now is around 25 and the other who is born here is 9.. but we have had a herd of ponies the last 11 years and they have never left the property.. The only time is when there are no grass just snow - then they can walk the road and go visit our neighbour but they come when we wizzle.. Funny horses.. The old one we got last year. He is the only horse that has had problems adjusting, but after a couple of months he setteled down. We saved him from a ridingschool. he was to old to work so we took him in . he is such a lovely pony. A English Exmoor. One of 3 in our country so it is quite fun when people can not recognise the breed.. So cute and sooo gentle but still hasd a lot of ompfh in him.. Lol.. he took off with me on his back - no saddle - no nothing... our other pony "Holly" - a big shetty went bananas a jumped and kicked and had a ball and then took off - our "Harry" followed with me on his back.. JESUS CHR... i was laughing so hard i almost fell off. The old gentleman really let loose and behaved like a youngster.. so fun.. - it was incredible to see how much spirit he has ( and FEEL the power.. Lol...).

I have tried to convert the size of the property It i in acres:279.22797 - i guess that is approx 280 acre ?? Very narrow at some places... Kanskje turen fra toppen og rundt til sjøen er nok for dem ... I can try to film them when we lead them up to the mountain for the summer :)

I loved your point of view and guided descriptions. that's exactly what you should do and how I would have explained it - with any animal. I think you're the only person I've seen that has really gotten it the same way I do. I don't know why I understand animals but I have been able to "get it" since a kid. Observing their behaviour and admiring all their particular intricacies is so uplifting. I respect them like a precious gift - they sense that or I have telepathy gifts - because I just understand and read their behaviour instantly and can predict their actions before it happens which surprises ppl but amuses me because it's so obvious to me. Ppl are fascinated at what animals do around me and how they are at ease in my presence and flock to me but it really IS all about not wanting to overpower them or expecting obedience, which is why they trust me more than others! - admiring their spirit and vitality is so beautiful and although obvious, not so natural for others! That is what os beautiful about animals - their unique spirit - watching the horses with their spunk in tact at the end was breathtaking and so satisfying! That's a true simbiótic relationship both ways. I'm like that with my animals and they are putty in my hands when I approach because they know it's genuine love on my part and ppl commonly say "what do you do to animals do you hypnotise them" I take that as a compliment even tho at times it's said in spite. How beautiful the animal kingdom.

Same with me too. It's so clear and obvious isn't it. I was lucky enough to make friends (their decision) with some wild horses. The lead mare adopted me, she was an angel. Before that I worked for a dressage instructor with andalusian stallions kept in stables 24/7 with some exercise per day yet sometimes only 30 mins in an arena. I knew it was wrong, I felt it on all levels and left fast. When I found the wild horses, I observed them and it made my heart sing. We were besties for 6 years until they were removed to wild lands miles and miles away. I still miss them, yet I learnt a great deal about how horses should be :) SO different to the usual domesticated horses. This channel is the only one I have found that represents that quite well. I love it!

This was really special. I like watching videos of wild horses in the West, and they have such distinct pride, dignity, their entire body language exudes it. It is beautiful, noble, natural, as it should be. I like horses and would like to " have some", and while domesticated horses are still special, it saddens me to see that magnificence absent in them. This, however, I have never seen before. The way they handle their bodies as they run, as they leap and posture, the position of their necks, heads and tails, the way they move, means their dignity is present; there's no loss in them. This is perfect, the way they were meant to be. What a privilege you have, receiving their complimentary choice to stay with you. Their freedom and joy is beautiful. They move Very much like horses in the wild. This is Very special. Thank you for sharing this, and for showing me it can be done. I would not want a horse if it meant him or her losing their true essence, and freedom. Joy!

Thank you for having the awareness to see/notice the difference! I have purposely tried to keep these guys as "wild" as possible for exactly these reasons. Funnily enough, there are those of us for whom 'obedience' is not an apex trait in a horse! :) The environment you provide your horses is equally important. It doesn't matter how you treat them, if your horse has a boring environment or not enough room to move naturally, you will watch their light die. The good news is that by providing a large, natural, stimulating (varied terrain) environment and allowing them to have a voice and to be empowered, even domestic horses can become enlivened - they will re-activate! A horse would be fortunate to have you as a caregiver
@cacatr4495
@cacatr4495 6 жыл бұрын
That is surprisingly good news, that they can become enlivened. I would have to learn better how to be a worthy caregiver in order to stimulate that, the How To's. Unfortunately, I came through a lineage that believed and enforced Domination to the point of sadness, so over the years, I've had to give my heart a greater voice while learning how to handle dogs in a way they never would have. I grew up without animals, except play and affection with other people's dogs and horses. I often regretted growing up with no dog of my own (animals weren't allowed), but with hindsight, I realized it was for the best, as the parents would have abused such an animal badly. During a couple of youthful summers, I learned to ride, handle, saddle and groom horses, and although there was no abuse there, it was a domesticated venue, and there was no freedom for the horses. That seemed very stilted to me during my young teenage years, but that was " how the world was", and in our youth we felt forced to accept it. It's been a long time since I've been around horses, but there's still relative comfort with them, though I've never been around horses in the wild, and would not try to infringe on their privacy or freedom. I've read about the unjust corralling of wild horses in the West, and their heinous captivity and shipment to Mexico for the European market, and it's very grieving, wholly unconscionable. Like the buffalo and elephants, deer, elk, moose, mountain goats and big horn sheep, I feel horses' freedom is to be respected and cherished. If I had the money and the land, I would " buy" (redeem the freedom of) some of those unconscionably corralled wild horses, and respect/love them as you do. Now decades later and the lineage long passed, my sensibilities about these things are a chasm away from " those people". During my young adulthood, they were always intimidated by my (polite) big dogs, and I thought that both sad and amusing, but those people deserved to watch their step. There are people that no animal should be around, children either. I respect the hearts of animals; it seems (way too many) people have lost theirs (hearts). As a result, I would rather live among natural creatures any day, than the 2-legged offenders. The way I see it, it is natural to live in Nature, not just for horses, but for us too, and unnatural to be in a city, but unfortunately, that's where I am. Freedom is valuable for all of us, and I feel I'd grow immensely living among God's creatures. That's my goal. Thanks for your word of encouragement, and for sharing.
@cacatr4495
@cacatr4495 6 жыл бұрын
I watched more of your videos last night > interesting. I have some good news, seeing that you value the freedom and respect of the creatures. Nosey, the 34-35 yo African Elephant that's been chained and made to give rides and perform in a traveling "circus" for the last 26 years, amidst many reports of her ailing neglected health and inadequate shelter for many years, isolated from all other elephants for the last 25 years, after years of animal-Advocates working to make headway for her release to go to sanctuary, I read that Animal Control confiscated her about 5 days ago, and she is now at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, temporarily, while court proceedings play out. It is critical that she be allowed her freedom, to have 4 free feet, able to roam the sanctuary as she pleases, to swim and forage and do her thing, able to socialize with the other elephants there, but until the court rules, her stay there is only temporary, and until her evaluation is done, she won't get to meet the other elephants, which is grieving, after nearly 25 years alone. (The conversations they could have about how insane Man is!) But at least she's there, and the depression has left her eyes, and she is (to use your precious word) enlivened, roaming and exploring, foraging and living "free" for the first time since Man made her an orphan at the age of 2. I pray (!) that the judge will rule in her favor, and that she'll get to stay at the sanctuary, and meet the other African Elephants that are there, and Not be returned to "those people", to the back of a small trailer, standing in her dung, unable to turn around, etc.. The creatures need our voices, very badly.

Thank you for that video and information about Nosey - SO powerful. And I also like the advice - to not send your sorrow, or your heartbreak to the animal, but to look for, to SEE their magnificence that is still there and honor and appreciate them for that. VERY powerful words as the sorrow is our 1st response, but not helpful for the animal itself! Instead we need to look for what is still beautiful, or powerful, or delightful, or magnificent and FOCUS our thoughts and feelings on that. That is what helps the animal, what helps him/her find their soul - their enlivened self - again. Namaste.

Now to learn how to be the best friend I can be to him. And that's not leaving him in a stall. He didn't even have a name. :-( Didn;t know to eat a carrot. He was just made to run. Although I am sceptical and find some of this annoying as it's humanising the horses behaviour rather than accepting it as a separate language I still think / agree with giving a horse space like this, you've got to be prepared that it won't go the way you want it and that certain things may cause certain negative outcomes. Either way it's nice to see someone approaching this in a different way and just letting the horse take their time, people who have this calm and patient approach with horses will always create a strong bond with them.

@ListenToYourHorse
@ListenToYourHorse 7 жыл бұрын
Only if you actually pull on them - which most people do :( I have taught my horses to lead using hand/voice signals (see my other video) so they always CHOOSE the rope halter over the flat halter as it is much lighter and unobtrusive. Again, IF no one is pulling on their head/face. My Andalusian even chooses a rope halter to go riding, rather than the bitless bridle. I've been experimenting with a way to make a rope halter (also I use the soft, spongy rope, not the hard, stiff kind) without any knots.... but haven't figured it out yet. When/if I do, I'll post on the blog for sure!

How? Like the way we deal with cats. They always come to us, sometimes for food, sometimes for cuddles. If we are calm and inviting, patient and not invasive, they will enjoy our company. Whenever I come riding in on the bicycle, several neighborhood cats suddenly appear from left and right. One will run next to me for hundreds of yards. Another zigzags in front of me. Another runs straight home, or wants a lift on my arm. Some want to come inside for a bit just for the company. They are all wellfed, but they come for treats and cuddles. They follow me when I leave home. They follow my husband now too, lying down on the street in front of his feet for bellyrubs. I even " have" a giant seagull joining the club. Animals will come anyway, if you give them the chance to stay away.

BRILLIANT!! Totally love it! And yes, horses are more like cats than dogs - they have that spirit of independence and sovereignty. Although I have to mention, that if we allow our dogs to likewise be empowered, then they too behave in a similar manner :)

Yes, unfortunately. He was a magnificent stallion and fantastic in every way... except going through fences to get to mares in heat.

God Bless you for what you do for these horses,and allowing them to be who God created them to be,but most of all thank you for the ones you rescued from the slaughter house,that is a barbaric practice that needs to be stopped these majestic creatures should leave this world on their own terms dignified and respectful.......God Bless you for helping them....

I named my first mustang mare, Juno, back in 2006. She is my soulmate horse. This is much how I manage my herd. I like how you say you don’t want obedient closed off horses, but rather ones of free expression. My horses are “trained”, but also full of expression.
