I ran into the same Crazy Redd glitch this past year. I was playing on my emulator so I thought it was related to that but looks like its native! I was able to replicate it multiple times that evening. If I ran in a straight line 2.5 acres from the tent when it did not have Redd in front of it (and I did not talk to Redd somewhere by his lonesome), then it reloaded. If I only went 1 acre away it went to a different location.
