It picks from a couple possible names for each villager, and the name tells you their personality. Becky is a snooty chicken, while Benjamin is a lazy dog. No Hank, though.

It's funny, I got Becky as my neighbor too in my game and thought "wouldn't it be great if VGA played this and got the chicken as well? Ha ha, what are the odds that'd happen though?" I'm especially pleased right now.

FYI, there is a set group of individual animal villagers, each with their own name, look and personality type... Becky is one of about 313 potential villagers. From the Animal Crossing wiki: "There are 313 potential neighbors in New Leaf - just over double the amount that was available in Animal Crossing: Wild World." Given that your village starts out with 5 villagers, there was a 5/313 chance of getting Becky. That is one mindfuck of a coincidence.

You probably know by jow but each animal has a set name and the animals you get in your town is randomized. Ex. I'll use that bear on the title screen. The bear's name is Stitches. In your town his name is Stitches. Let's say your friend has him. The bear's name is Stitches. But your other friend might not have Stitches in his town. Hope that wasn't too confusing.

Clarification on warnings: Fraser is grumpy and bashes on the game later... because the load times for the online connecting stuff is really, REALLY slow and there are multiple crashes. He is rightfully grumpy. He has fun and likes it well enough before that.

To anyone thinking this game is shitty after this first look, If you liked any previous Animal Crossing, this is a great game. I've played it for about a week and you can tell there's a lot to discover and there are a bunch of new stuff and improvements. Really, the only shitty thing is the connectivity issues.
