Could you give us the rundown of what they need? What substrate do you recommend best for burrowing.

Do you know what the difference is between a Giant Butterfly agama, and a Butterfly agama? There is just not a lot of information regarding the differences between the two.

I like to use jungle mix and/or eco earth, but also mix in some desert blend or clay mix. All of these mixed in can help with creating burrows and holding temperature. There are a couple of clay style mixes from ExoTerra like desert stone and excavator.

I would also make sure they have plenty of places to duck into and hide, so rock hides would be good. I like to take slate rock and stack it at an angle with a large stone under one side and then pile that back and forth to make multiple caves.

I’m pretty sure I have one living in the palms behind the house. It’s about 12” long..much bigger than the anoles that are everywhere.

Hi i have a butterfly agama that wont eat anything right now can you help me out with what to do
@thetattooedzookeeper6709
@thetattooedzookeeper6709 2 жыл бұрын
The first thing to check would be the cage temperatures, especially the basking area, to make sure it isn’t too hot or too cold. Temperature makes a big difference in reptiles wanting to eat. I would also make sure that his enclosure isn’t in a high traffic area, especially one where foot traffic might make the cage shake or rattle and also where there isn’t a lot of flickering lights and sound. Also, if he isn’t eating, dont handle but it could also be stress induced. We want to whittle down everything until we find what the problem is, so start with the above and if still not eating, we can try to tackle some other issues which may be internal health related.

hi what humidity do they require
@thetattooedzookeeper6709
@thetattooedzookeeper6709 2 жыл бұрын
Less than 50%. Their natural environment is considered arid; forest edge, open grasslands. So they are used to it being hot and dry with small areas for humidity.

and also how often do you feed them as adults
@thetattooedzookeeper6709
@thetattooedzookeeper6709 2 жыл бұрын
I typically recommend 3-4 feedings a week. In practice I feed every other day and then maybe do a “treat” day once a week. So, I may feed the normal diet of crickets or cockroaches MWF and then on Sa or Su I may feed a waxworm or two or maybe a small horned worm.

My butterfly agama is in shed and I need advice from other agama owners
@thetattooedzookeeper6709
@thetattooedzookeeper6709 Жыл бұрын
It wouldn’t hurt to either give him a warm water soak every other day for 10-15min until through the shed and/or give a humidity box inside the enclosure.
