A little backstory to type up for fun in case you didn’t know: (Btw Tom Nook has a lot of backstory, this isn’t all of it, including a strong friendship with Sable, but you can just look that up) (We hear this mostly from Sable, his childhood friend, and Tom Nook in wild world and a bit of happy home designer) The GameCube game takes place right after Tom’s failure in the city where his dreams got crushed and all his money got stolen by crazy Redd (they worked together once). He had headed off to the city, leaving his hometown to make his biggest dreams come true (according to Sable, he used to always say “dreams before money!” And the people of the town thought he was too pure for the world), only to come back to his hometown with his tail between his legs, as the game called it. Seems they were a bit right. But yeah at the start he couldn’t afford a house, so he lived in his one room shack-oops I mean shop- it is a shack though, he basically nailed a few pieces of wood together, added tinfoil for the roof and called it a day. In fact, it is even stated that Tom Nook's shop may be Tortimer's old gardening shed before he became mayor.That is sad.

People are absolutely right- as well as the soundtrack, THIS odd gameplay detail is what the original game had. Everything after still retained the Nintendo difference of a multitude of minor details you would never notice, but they're all 'safe'. Nothing fancy or amusing like this game (and all its cousin Jap Sim games of the time) did. Difference between simply adding character to the game, and to the game WORLD.
