It’s always a joy to see new shows debut at the #DisneyParks, but for some reason, an unholy curse has been placed on the Rivers Of Light Amphitheater leaving only chaos! #WaltDisneyWorld was simply not prepared for the unpredictable insanity that is KITES! Jungle Book & The Lion King both are full of real silly moments.

I feel like if this show existed alongside Rivers of Light, then it would be received better as just being a fun little daytime show. But the fact this replaced a nighttime spectacular show at Animal Kingdom is why it’s considered so awful. Like at least Rivers of Light had a better budget and more effort into it, plus it was more themed around actual animals instead of just Disney IP’s.

🪁 This should have been less of a show and more like street-mosphere where like every 15 minutes you can catch someone flying a cool Disney kite out there. Just having fun casually flying a colorful kite. Totally magical but it’s just not sit-down-show worthy. Also, can we focus more on the art and physicality of the act of kite flying itself and less on the design and size of the kite? Like hire a pro kite trick flyer to stand stationary on a barge and pull off some sick moves for 10 minutes!

Kitetails should be a night show. The jet ski wakes can be illuminated and take regulated precautions, the kites can be lit, the puppet performers can be added to stationary platforms at various depths from viewers, and extended use of illuminated fountains/mist would be a way to use imagination to the best they can at Animal Kingdom, for they can’t have fireworks.

I disagree, the shows Eisner greenlit are still going and are still fan favourites. Say what you want about Eisner but if he liked an idea he threw money at it to make sure it would work like Fantasmic and Disneyland Paris. Over budget and long to recoup the costs, some longer than others, but they were considered successes in at least one big way. Nothing here is successful and the new parks team and CEOs are kidding themselves if they thought this would ever work

I'm following your rundown and am thinking, "eh, it's kinda cheap Disney entertainment, that's not foreign to the parks, it's a little weird but hey, it's fine..." So I was there on the 2nd, and watched King Louie break. Classic. Then they cancelled the show for the rest of the day because of “strong winds”. 🙄🧐 Honestly, this show and Harmonious both reek of someone not saying “no” to terrible ideas. I remembered the parade for the millennium celebration at Epcot and how that died a swift death because winds made it dangerous. I told my partner to expect the same thing for KiteTails, and so far it hasn’t disappointed. All that said, there’s a ton of absolutely amazing stuff they’ve done for the 50th, so we should expect a few failures. But whoever is in charge of shows needs to be fired. Out of a cannon. Into the sun. Because Harmonious ruined the sightlines for World Showcase and sucks. And, well, Dan just summarized everything that is wrong with KiteTails in under 14 minutes. So yeah, Disney needs to dump everyone involved in those shows and get some real talent hired in.

I was there on the 29th for the soft opening and there were so many children crying when they saw Baloo being brought down and crashed into the water. Even though that was a planned thing, that's how I knew what a horrible show it was going to be. I will say my opinion changed once I saw it in person. It helps that they do break it up and you catch one or the other versions because then you only are watching about a 10 minute show rather than a possible 20 minute show. The preshow is cute but as an "activation" as they call it, I don't think the length warrants waiting to watch it. It's a come as it starts kind of performance or stop and watch as you pass by, take a quick load off from walking around the park.

Wait Rivers of Light is done for?! SHIT I knew I shouldve gotten a pin ebay here I come. When I was there Rivers of Light went off without a hitch it was beautiful and flawless....so apparently I was lucky as id never heard of these mishaps before. Honestly even if the kitetales execution is laughable Disney needs to realize that the best way to sell these kites to people is to LITERALLY sell them. Just make mini versions of them (especially some of the puppets in the stands) and sell em. The jet ski debts will be cleared. Also those animal puppets from the holidays are AMAZING they should be doing that always.

I was just there a little over a week ago. Landed in Orlando the morning of 50th anniversary and I actually agree…. These Kite shows are a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!! What made it even worse was the HEAT AND HUMIDITY

Fun fact: Disney has “admitted” themselves in their new announcement (replacing the Oxygen Announcement with it as a result) for what looks like a 90s-2000s Disney show that the kites are prone to crashing into random areas. A part of it states, “What goes up, must come down. But don’t worry, it’s all part of the fun!”
