There was literally nothing "cute" about his behavior just as him being severely overweight wasn't "cute" either. It was disgusting and even as an adult, SP attempted to nurse from the females he could overpower while at the sanctuary...and I'm sure his gluttony and obesity played a part in his premature demise which came via a heart-attack. Popeye is at fault for that, however. She was a poor mother and honestly should've been sterilized. If she had been, the monstrosity known as SP wouldn't have ever existed. I'm sure that sounds harsh, but the fact that her failure to properly raise SP resulted in him having a short lifespan just makes me feel like it would've been better had he never even been brought into this world...and not only was he way too old to be nursing, not only was he obese, but he was also a spoiled brat that regularly bullied other juveniles hence why so many of the mothers avoided him and Popeye. They didn't want her chunky goose around their babies and I can't say that I blame them.

Giving attention and letting them feed when they are OBVIOUSLY bit enough NOT to, is totally different. They should both be OFF the nipple -- it's the newborn's turn at the milk bar. @mchevre3 ай бұрын
@@forgottenquill7063 Actually it IS normal to still breastfeed a 3 year old. Chimps in the wild wean around 4 years or so. Humans, throughout our natural history, would wean between 3 and 5 years old, similar to chimps. In the wild a chimp mother perhaps wouldn't be having another baby so soon, but if she did, she'd probably wean the bigger kids sooner because of it. But basically, our modern conception that breastfeeding is exclusively only for infants is a relatively new and alien idea that does not comport with our evolutionary history, or the overall evolutionary history of the great apes. The early weaning practiced by humans today is a cultural advent made possible by advances in technology and nutrition. Certainly, it's a good thing that modern human mothers are not obligated to the role of continuous living milk bar, and I'm not advocating women today should breastfeed longer than whatever works best for them and their baby personally - but to suggest there's something abnormal about the longer breastfeeding is simply ahistorical.

Kyoto has a handful world renown experts in primatology working w/ them, as they’re right by the university. So, there’s really nothing to worry about as far as her nutrition. I have to say, there is something inherently obnoxious about a juvenile tantruming as they’re weening. Not sure if that’s what you meant, haha… but it does drive me crazy, particularly when a new baby is in the picture. The twins just turned four, and while some chimps do nurse for some time after that benchmark, the girls are definitely past needing mother’s milk for any supplemental benefits. Chimp babies are infamous for their outbursts and brattiness during their this phase. There’s a short YT clip from Goodall, I believe, about it. I think it’s called chimpanzee sibling rivalry.
