And I’m a HUGE Made in Abyss fan. Something about that scene in paranoia agent was so raw and real I had to take a moment and process it.

Paprika is actually a pretty faithful adaptation of a novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui. The premise is that a group of psychologists develop a device to monitor, record, review, enter, and interact with people’s dreams. An unfortunate side effect is that excessive use can cause crossover from the dream world. Someone steals one of the devices in order to sabotage the project and a battle that jumps freely between dream worlds and reality ensues.

It's quite an exaggeration to say that Satoshi Kon has "many more messed up anime titles." [8:25] He directed only four films and one series (okay, and three episodes of JOJO). The only two that weren't mentioned on these lists are TOKYO GODFATHERS and MILLENNIUM ACTRESS, and you'd be hard pressed to say either of them were messed up. One of the fascinating things about his works is that the plots and moods are quite different in all of them, even though the animation style is consistent. A great artist we lost far too soon.

I didn't expect Berserk as no.1 but is a great series story wise. The part that grossed me out is when Caska gets r*ped by Griffith in the Eclipse chapter in the manga. Caska imo had to age regress in a way to heal until she got fixed later on.

Aside from Berzerk and maybe Higurashi, these really don't touch the gore fests of 80's and 90's anime. Now those were disturbing, Genocyber episode 1 has some of the most over the top gore in anime. Others like the orignial Devil Man, Vampire Hunter D, Violence Jack are all up there. For 2000's anime, I'm surprised that Elfen Leid wasn't on this list, the first 10 minutes of Episode 1 has some of the most stomach churning gore of any anime. Elfen Leid is not for the faint of heart. As for most disgusting anime, there is Pupa. Sick doesn't even begin to describe the amount of disgusting, disturbed and depraved this anime is. It was like the author and creators of the anime wanted to see how far they could go before being hauled off to prison and thrown under the prison with key launched into spaced after making that abomination.

Ok so I watched the first episode of Genocyber Episode 1 and...there's really not that much happening. Some kills here and there, later on some more grotesque looking beings, some more killing and that's it. You made it sound as if it was some gory slaughterfest. It's not. For a 45min episode I'd call it a very low amount of gore.

I came across Berserk when I was in middle school XD it started with Galaxy Express 999 then I saw this one then I had a addiction for staying up late watching those kind of anime while drawing XD I like regular horror also probably doesn't help I grew up on a Elm Street :p I grew up in Germany when I was younger I heard Guts is based off a German Knight named Götz von Berlichingen he had a metal hand after his was cut off so he could still fight he told a German a phrase still used today I don't think I could post it here XD but if you look him up it will mention the phrase he coined

I loved Higurashi but hated the remake. The original 2 seasons (with, arguably to a lesser extend Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei) are perfect in my opinion and always worth a watch....though you can skip S1 on a rewatch if you are not just a torture sicko ^^
