Quote: _"Shame it doesn't have the views it deserves."_ I imagine most people are like me. I'm 69 and I had never wondered how a sundial worked until maybe a week or two ago. The difficulty I had in grasping the principles generated more questions. I can now appreciate the brilliance of the armillary sphere.

This demonstrates the kind of genius we humans are capable of. It makes me wish we humans were more dedicated as a whole to science and exploration of the heavens, as opposed to the things we are currently dedicated to.

I'd like to see an exact version with exception having a light in the center of earth that projects out and allows you to map the projected shadows.
@grayeaglej
@grayeaglej 3 жыл бұрын
You almost got it, but backwards. The purpose of the globe in the center is to cast a shadow when properly aligned via the rings in order to give an accurate telling of TIME throughout the year. It is a SUNDAIL. This IDIOT spouting gobldygook about celestial spheres and other garbage has absolutely no idea what these devices were actually used for. :/ We used to BUILD these as school projects back when schools taught Science instead of Political Idiology. :/

@grayeaglej

Its a Sundial. You align the sphere with the North Star, turn the longitudinal ring to your specific location, set the azimuth or "Zodiac" ring to the current Month (when those specific constellations are in the sky) and Done. During daylight hours the Sphere will cast a shadow that gives you the exact time for your specific Latitude/Longitude and Season. These things were the most accurate time keeping devices ever created before the age of Mechanical Clocks, and even into that time. The Idiot in this video has absolutely no idea what he is holding and so made up that garbage about Simplified View of the Universe and Celestial Spheres and crap, probably because he cant grasp the concept that a SUNdial has to be aligned using STARS at NIGHT since magnetic compasses and ways of finding Longitude were rare and expensive at the times these were used. :/
